People question why. But questioning why, in and of itself, is not taking the red pill. Taking the red pill would be questioning why and then actively seeking the answer to why. Most people don't. In fact, when people start to learn why they tend to run in the other direction.

Yes. I agree. :)

For me..

I view the Blue Pill representing those who are comfortable in answering all their questions by different set belief systems (both dogmatic beliefs and unquestioned ideologies, etc). They accept reality as it is imposed by external entities (religions, governments, social norm, etc).

The Red Pill for me represents that never-ending search for "truth" or not accepting any one's answer to the questions. A free-thinking individual who can accept to say, "I don't know" and then search for the answers himself. An individual who can see past the externally imposed reality and begin to realize that this is only a collectively accepted reality, and that it is not the end-all-be-all, etc.

Hope I communicated my thoughts clear, I can always expand and correct them if need be.

Did you read my last post? Would you care to comment on whether you are dealing with the physical or the spiritual? Really, they affect us very differently.

To be honest I'm not quite sure the distinction is an issue for me in my above post. Again, it is my unique way of viewing and working with the metaphor, and everyone's will be equally unique. It seems to me we are approaching the metaphor differently. Mine is in a more general sense of "reality" and not as "literal" as the film portrays it.

Are you suggesting that the reality of this world is not the real reality? That would imply a more "Matrix" thought to this for me. Reality can sometimes be harsh, but I don't believe that there is any "glitter" in this world that covers up what this world is except for maybe certain religion's special glasses or blinders as the case may be. If you are suggesting a pill for people who can't accept the reality of things like evolution and geology and plate tectonics, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, i don't know what your point in all this is if you aren't suggesting something alternate from what we know to be fact...as in the Matrix...where you got this premise from in the first place.

I'm not suggesting anything at all in this thread, merely sharing an article I found interesting and a poll out of curiosity. My above post is simply my *personal* interpretation and way of applying the Pill metaphor presented in the Matrix to me. Nothing else. :)

Depends Upon My Mood..
Sounds like to me you basically have to "twist and turn" to believe anything is good or "not ugly or bad" these days.

Everything sucks and were all gonna die and then lay down into a fetal postition is a LOT easier than finding anything good and putting effort into it..

Oppostion is at your door to feel any joy..to see any brightness..to not dwell on the negative..

If you have to start fantasizign about basically labotomizing people and planting false memories in their heads thats pretty sick..

I voted blue. I was asked a very similar question to this in a seminar group at university and from a group of about ten people I was the only one that happily went for the "blissful ignorance" selection on that occasion.

I think most of us already live in a 'matrix' of sorts anyway. We can watch documentaries on television about the terrible conditions of third world countries, but then we still continue to live our throw-away consumer lifestyles as if it isn't happening.

I know that my life is not the reality for most of the world, but I don't like to think about things like the African AIDS epidemic, starvation, third world poverty and sheer misery that affects those people's lives, because it's just so sad and depressing. I feel helpless, so I embrace the ignorance.

I wake up every morning and continue to live my blue pill existence, just like most people do.

I would take red. While I wish life was like the blue pill situation, we cannot ignore what is truly happening in the world in our times. With new breakthroughs and new technologies and easy living in some societies, there are always drawbacks. The only way we can stop this kind of stuff is if we know what things are going on.

The blue pill symbolises commuting to work every day, or brushing your teeth.
This is very misleading, in that a life devoted to searching for truth may still require commuting to work every day, and brushing one's teeth. The problems and boring requirements of life don't go away in a single moment of choice like this, and one isn't left with only a wondrous daily round of discovering truth for the rest of one's existence.

As one of the Zen masters is supposed to have said: "Before enlightenment, chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water." Searching for (even discovering) truth doesn't keep one fed and healthy, or prevent tooth decay, unfortunately. It would be realy cool if that were true, but it's not.
