Boycotting Facebook today

Facebook is being boycotted by Muslims generally and Arabs specifically today for continuously removing the "Third Palestinian Intifada" page under the Israeli pressure.
God willing, I am sharing. But I am wondering why do we have to protest and the creator/the executive of the website will definitely be against our cause?
Why don't we create our own social networking website that can embrace our cause, our revolutions, our worries, etc? Why do we have to rely on Facebook and Twitter, etc? Especially that we have seen how such websites can be a good means of communication in our pursuit of change?

Why do we have to threaten to boycott Facebook every time they close an Islamic page or a page about the Palestinian cause and we can have our Islamic or Arabic website that serves the same purpose with more options that can suit these moments that we live?
Do we expect the administration to be fair towards us? I personally don't expect this.

Sahar, I know that the boycott begins today, but when will it end?

Surely we need our own social networking website, to make any boycott effective, there should be an alternative to that thing you are boycotting.....

I wouldn't say "coercive power" but pressure.

ADL urges Facebook to remove 'Third Intifada' page
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has "reached out to Facebook" to remove a "cause" page entitled "Third Palestinian Intifada," saying the page constitutes "an appaling abuse of technology to promote terrorist violence." According to an official statement, the ADL's request has not been met.

...Last Wednesday Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edelstein sent a letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg asking him to make sure that a page calling for a third Palestinian Intifada be shut down.

In a personal plea to the founder of Facebook, Edelstein wrote "I turn to you [Zuckerberg] with the request that you order the immediate removal of this Facebook page." "I am sure that you too hold fast to these values and would prefer that all of the pages on your site operate according to them," the letter continued.

The founders of the Facebook group claim that they got the idea for the page from the recent uprisings throughout the Middle East that led to the ousting of the Tunisian and Egyptian leaders and the fall of their regimes.

It was a call for mass demonstrations in Palestine and the Arab countries to support liberation of Palestine and condemn the Israeli occupation and murder of our brothers and sisters there. The call came after the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt.

How does Facebook handle other attempts to stir up political protest?
Do they squelch them generally or selectively?

If they are violent, or potentially violent, they do squelch them. The one in question was deemed violent as there were many violent posts on the page. There were those who were calling for something far from a peaceful demonstration. That was the primary reason it was shut down.

Many of sites are afraid of slamming them with the terrorist card and facebook is one of them.

Sorry for being so dumb, but how boycotting facebook for one day would help !!!!!!!

I agree, the boycott should be forever.

err not that it would really help, but yes if all of us weren't sitting at home glued to our screens, we'd be out there doing something.

You know, I can understand why some Muslims would want to boycott Facebook over this. I personally agree with the Muslims who are boycotting Facebook although I won't be joining in the boycott. Facebook should allow all groups on their site so long as these groups aren't promoting violence or terrorism or other illegal activities.
