Debate if you want, but that thread already is going. I'm investigating if Socioemotional Selectivity Theory (or it's sibling) can apply here as well to beliefs. The question is; do you believe that consciousness is caused by the brain or is not (please pick a side) and what age group do you fit into.

Both/neither/depends.

Sorry, I don't seem to fit into your pigeonholes.

Though mostly, I don't care. As an animist, I regard all things as "conscious" or "aware." I simply accept that this is, and leave it at that.

It's sorta, kinda in a way like asking if either red or yellow are the cause of orange

Yeah, I don't believe its all physical but I have no proof either way. Undecided 41-50.

I understand that there's an "undecided" option but I specifically requested you pick a side, even a likely side based on evidence / belief, even if it's what you WISH to be true, and answer. Please do so.

When people ask me to pick sides for things for which I truly do not fall into either pigeonhole, I tend to cross my arms and stubbornly refuse. :D

At a minimum electricity and magnetism are probably involved and most people don't realize electricity has 3 states positive, negative and neutral(zero).

Then there's no point in this thread to you. If you're not even willing to give your thoughts (everyone prefers a side) then why even bother clicking the thread? :)

Oh, you know. Because I have an insufferable habit of wanting to remind folks that the gamut of options is broader than is sometimes considered. I can't resist, you know. :run:

I have been studying the mind for a few years and have yet to see a paper that states such a fact. Being a neuroscientist can you link one for me.

Also can you describe the process the brain uses to create music because that is also something I have never been able to find.

The results are already questioning my hypothesis anyways, though I'd like significantly more votes

You would need over 40 votes to have a good sample.

There are more than 40 people on here like 24/7. We could sticky it and leave it for a while. It could support that rejecting physical consciousness is (not) an act of pure emotion over knowledge. Considering our community's obsession with the debate...
