Budget vote coming soon

Until the American voting public votes on something besides popularity like they were voting for a high school homecoming king and queen,or voting along straight political party lines there are going to be problems. Of course that would mean that the voting public would have to become educated to the real world and that isn't going to happen.

Voting along straight party lines does have its justification as long as it's not done blindly. It is the party that mostly sets the platform and draws its support from other members plus lobbyists, so the candidate only has a bit of wiggle room, as what we saw with the R's in the last election. The strategy by some political scientists to support this approach is to vote for Party A, and if they get in and don't deliver, then vote for Party B or C.

Unfortunately, voting is all too often done as if it were a popularity contest whereas the real issues often are secondary.

Hello? Did someone say Republican? That's me -- and yes, I am very happy; though I don't know what you're talking about.

Just in:

CAPITOL HILL ON SECURITY LOCKDOWN. GUNSHOTS HEARD.

-- US Capitol Hill on security lockdown

In the Pacific Northwest, we have blue skies and leaves turning colors. Washington,
DC did not provide any of this, so we are not affected by the shutdown.

I don't detect any Republicans in this thread.
(My tricorder has a setting for that.)
tricorder tick tick tick... I'm here, the elephant in the living room!

I'm a little heavy -- need to exercise more...

The shooting update is here. Police chased a woman driver with an infant in the car, from near the White House to near the Capitol. They shot the woman, who seems to have been taken away in an ambulance, alive. The child was apparently unhurt.

I don't know what any of this has to do with the budget hearings. -- a little excitement, in an otherwise not-too-interesting news day.

I have noted that those 800,000 Federal employees furloughed are probably almost all hardcore Obama supporters. Not much for us Republicans to get excited over. When the President and his party are ready, they can cooperate.
