Bye Bye Tories

OK, so one Labour PM in your timescale was Murdoch's child's godfather.
But that same PM led the country for 10 years, improved the country immeasurably and because of that, I can handle him being the friends with the owner of much of our media.
I would prefer a further left wing Labour leader, BUT I will abide with a centre right Labour party rather than a far right Tory one.
Ok.

Blair did not improve the country immeasurably. He improved it very slightly in some ways while accelerating all of the fundamental issues that have plagued the UK since the 80s. He is also a war criminal partly responsible for the deaths of millions of people, the destabilisation of the Middle East and the all the carnage that followed.

Also, if you're fine with the owner of a multinational media corporation owning our PM then I'm at a loss as to why you're upset about the tories in the first place. Sounds like the party for you.

NHS, Education was immeasurably better.
War criminal, maybe, I certainly marched against the invasion BUT it was backed by the Tories and the Tories are now backing genocide in Gaza.
Blair was not 'owned' by Murdoch, he pandered up to him because he still believed the mantra of 4-years earlier, "It was the Sun that won it".

I am not Labour through and through. I voted Lib Dem in my local elections yesterday, but I did vote for Labour in my Mayoral election.

So, did Boris go home, get his ID, and return to vote?
Apparently so. But just in case there's still anybody out there that doesn't think he's a complete noble:

"If I am ever asked, on the streets of London, or in any other venue, public or private, to produce my ID card as evidence that I am who I say I am, when I have done nothing wrong and when I am simply ambling along and breathing God's fresh air like any other freeborn Englishman, then I will take that card out of my wallet and physically eat it in the presence of whatever emanation of the state has demanded that I produce it."

- Ask to see my ID card and I'll eat it

( as I mentioned earlier: it was Bozo that made the requirement to bring photo ID a stipulation of the Elections Act in 2022 )

A little better. They still tried to run both like they were private equity, cuts for "efficiency" and so on. Nurses on strike. Hospitals that we will be paying for for decades under the protection of "commercial confidentiality".

Exactly. The same forces control both parties.

I suppose I must be a terrible cynic because this sounds unbelievably naive.

I've got a PhD in cynicism but I concur with @Altfish on this point. Now we have the joys of social media I think things have significantly changed on the public influencing stage but back then I think the Murd*** press could, if not make or break a party's chances they certainly had a strong influence. Until 2018 the Sun had the largest daily newspaper circulation in the UK.

Yes he did, but what a silly mistake for the Former Prime Minister whose government had introduced compulsory photo-id at voting stations.
Or maybe he thought that such folks as he didn't need to obey rules? After all, he held parties during the covid lockdown.
It was a publicity stunt, he's not been in the news for a week or so.

Perhaps you haven't come across founder Nigel Farage... Perhaps the most distasteful person this side of the Atlantic
I once read a description of Nigel Farage as resembling a "frog impersonating a scrotum". What a wicked thing to say.:mask:

My brother in law was accosted by him in a toilet in a pub in Oldham. BIL was relieving himself when Farage walked in, stood next to him at the next urinal and asked him if he was voting UKIP.

BIL told him to **** off.

BIL has often said since then you should expect to meet Farage in a toilet.
