...and of course you, like Schiff, can read minds and know what everybody REALLY thinks, no matter what they actually SAY?
Like you, like everybody else I know --- I know when I'm being lied to. That is (like it or not) something that evolution has given us.

DO you? Funny just how many people do not know when they are being lied to.

It is my experience that people, coming into pretty much any situation with their minds already made up. have predetermined who the liars are....and isn't it amazing how often the "liars" are the folks who disagree with their preconceptions, and the 'truthtellers' are the ones who agree with them or speak the words the listener most wants to hear?

As for me, I'm not that sanguine; when I see a bunch of people reciting the pledge of allegiance, I'm not going to make any assumptions about their sincerity and truthfulness in saying the words.

I'm also not going to assume, as you seem to have, that fully half of the citizens of the US are deplorable liars, insincere fools and too stupid to live simply because they don't agree with me politically.

Lots of people, myself included, gag on the divisiveness and falsehood of The Pledge as currently required by law.

Every time I'm pressured into reciting it I am reminded that it's designed to divide the country into "Conservative Christians who believe the b.s., and the rest of us."

The original author of what used to be The Pledge didn't write that or intend it. Bellamy's intention was to create a unifying pledge for children. But political operatives high jacked his Pledge, and now use it to cause division amongst adult citizens.
And it works. Every time I stand for it I'm reminded of how far this country is from the goals The Pledge espoused. And how The Pledge is used to keep pushing us further from those goals.
Tom

Thanks for explaining.

Out of curiosity, how do you feel about the pledge made for the oath of office as a politician assumes their new or continuing role in government?
As if a silly ritualized pledge makes them behave or uphold that oath.
The flag is a silly material cloth, the pledge is a silly ritual to a silly piece of cloth. Surely the America you believe in is above declaring it to be one nation under a god we all know to be Jehovah, making it really an establishment/respecting of religion.

Except, yesterday I watched a bunch of Senators say that pledge out loud, and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they did not mean a goodly part of it.

To me, it's exactly the same thing as mindless repetition of the Apostle's Creed in church -- making people say what they don't, in fact, actually believe.

The things I truly believe, in my heart of hearts, I do not need to recite daily. Instead, I live them -- minute by minute.
How the F did you know they didn`t mean it ? What a total crock.

You are pressured into reciting it? Yet you really, really don`t want to?

You really do have a skewed and badly biased view of anybody who doesn't think just like you do.

Being concerned about how the country is doing, where it's going, what standards it upholds, is not actually the same as hating. If you weren't so tied to your agenda, you'd likely be able to figure that out.

What do flags have to do with anything? Flags are idols, like any other symbol that's worshipped without much understanding of why.

And apparently, you are still unable to learn what the word "socialist" actually means. That's too bad, really, because it means you'll just have to go on mischaracterizing people in order to make your own point.
Flags are symbols that represent the country, all of it. Many men have died fighting under it, and they knew exactly what if it meant. I knew some.

YOUR comments sicken me. Go eat some maple leaves.

As you do?

Try being the one who isn't reciting it. "Pressure" can be putting it lightly. Try being the one who doesn't stand because your knee has decided screw everyone and everything and it's not standing up. "Pressure" can be putting it rather very quite mildly. A million times worse than the "pressure" of standing when a judge enters court.

That's what the socialist Democrats have been relegated to.

Hating the country.

Hating the American flag.

If the pledge had any meaning to the Republican Senators, they wouldn't be putting Trump ahead of the Country.

Demeaning those who actually do love the country and the American flag.

Repeating a Pledge that automatically excludes a significant portion of the people in the country is disrespectful at best.

Watch the debates this election year and see how many socialist Democrats wear the American flag on their lapel. A few might, but most won't.

Because rational people know that phony patriots hide behind flag symbols. Because people who truly understand and care about the country don't need to hide behind flag symbols.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Here's some education for the entitled smug smart-*** left of today from a man who literally , and I mean literally spilled his guts for this country and explains what it means to be a real Patriot with a real love and respect for this country and its flag.

Congressional medal of Honor recipient the late MSGT Roy Benavidez a Green Beret during one of his speeches addresses the meaning of patriotism and the American flag.

The socialist Democrat left won't ever and I mean ever have the patience to watch this man whom words cannot describe, nor will we see again in one's entire lifetime.

Here's the timestamp where he starts addressing our national symbols such as the flag of our country and the meanings associated with our national symbols...

17:40

If anything should be made mandatory in school, it should be watching this at least one time before graduation and going out into the world.

I salute the late MSGT Roy Benavidez a selfless Green Beret and just thanking him for his service isn't enough. Listening to what he had to say at least once is the best thanks I can think of personally.

Because, among others, Mitch McConnell made the pledge, including the words "and justice for all," after having said he had no intention of holding a fair trial in the Senate, saying "I'm not an impartial juror." Without a fair trial, there is no justice. So he either didn't mean one or the other -- you choose.
