Ah, no need to be recent?!

Great!

1.) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (for best Epic adventure game)
I am not sure, a link to the past was almost the same story only I loved the mirror effect.
2.) Super Mario 64 (for best 3D platformer)
Definatelly this one. After this one every 3d platformer got compared to this one!
3.) Super Metroid (for best 2D platformer)
Meh...:p
4.) TIE! Final Fantasy 6 or 7 (for best story/character-driven RPG I haven't played Chrono Trigger yet...)
7, if only it was for its fame..
5.) Sonic CD (for inescapable fanboyism lol)

As fanboy I would rather take the Sonic 3 + Sonic & knuckles combination :D

Of the series, which Civilization is the best?

Well, IV is easiest to pick up and play, but II had the bigger manual. :D (I can't say why, but II is the most fun in my opinion.)

The first one is, frankly, very frustrating, and I haven't played III, but it gets pretty lousy reviews. Revolution was annoyingly cute, but not bad for a child's version of the game.

must... resist... zelda timeline... discussion... !!

Link to the Past was a fine game, itself. But I played Ocarina of Time first. :D

With good reason; it set the standard for 3D platforming, and if the game did not attain that standard, it was discarded.

I played it a few weeks ago all the way through (in a few days), and realized just how awsome it is.

7, if only it was for its fame..

Yeah... but 6 has a far more coherant story. (I'm still confused over many points of 7's plot.) Not to mention, 6 had the Opera scene. (Even though 7 had that one scene that shall not be mentioned on the offchance that certain members have not played it yet. ;))

I almost said that, as well.

Overall top 5 console games, mine would have to be:

Castelvania: Symphony of the Night
Final Fantasy VII
Mario Kart Wii
Guitar Hero Series
Gran Turismo IV

I was thinking, The purpose of civilization is to conquer other cities.. Wouldn't that be violence?
And Final Fantasy isn't a sweet kitten either..

The purpose of Civilization doens't HAVE to be conquering other cities.

I recently played a game of Civ IV, as King Ashoka, and never went to war with anybody, attempting to get a diplomatic victory. (I didn't get it; Saladin did. grr....)

Final Fantasy isn't "violent", but it does get pretty dark in VI, VII, and VIII.

guess I'm a little late for this but thought i'd mention it anyway.
Lost Winds WiiWare game

cute little game. you manipulate your character and the environment by controlling gusts of wind with the wiimote. simple but surprisingly addictive.
