I don't know.
I used to be very very depressed and was put on anti-depressants

My depression lifted and I no longer feel depressed

Was my depression cured by the meds or only managed?

I have no idea

Edit: I suppose the way to tell is to stop taking them and see what happens, maybe it will return? Who knows!

Can depression be cured or only managed ?

Interesting question. Let's start with replacing it with a cold. Can it be cured or only managed?

IF you know the answer for a cold
THEN you know the answer for depression
I don't see how depression and a cold are alike

For starters, one cannot catch depression

Although granted, being amongst depressed people can bring you down

But it is a condition not a disease

I didn't say they are alike

I said: find the answer, cure or managed, for a 'cold', then know the answer for 'depression';)
That assumes that being cured of a cold is like stopping being depressed

I don't think it is

Take for instance Scizopherenia, there is no cure for that as with a cold but it can be managed

It did prove that your claim was false, right?
No

You cannot catch depression from someone else

It is not a virus it is a mental illness

It is a condition of the brain

Nothing like a common cold

And there is nothing in Quint's post about them catching depression

Well, you seem to know all about depression
So, I guess you solved your depression
I'm glad for you, I have solved it too

And

I solved the question asked in the title
That was all the O.P. asked

Maybe the cause of that is genetic?????
There is inevitably a genetic component to such conditions. Part of why my condition has been acute rather than chronic is because my mom suffered from chronic depression and recognized it me when it started. She really pushed me to get treatment rather than ignore it as "no big deal" or whatever, which in hindsight was her wanting to prevent me from developing chronic depression like she did. It worked, and I owe her for it big time. I had an awesome mom and I miss her a lot.
