I am. I'm just not open to making this thread about me and whatever health issues I might have.Okay, my bad. It doesn't sound like you are obese anyways. Sorry for asking.
I've just always been curious about how much diet is linked to obesity, and if a change in diet is usually the answer (with exercise of course).I am. I'm just not open to making this thread about me and whatever health issues I might have.
There's a lot of different reasons. Many Urban poor live in food deserts (Food desert - Wikipedia), may not have enough time to be cooking meals from scratch, live in dangerous neighborhoods where exercising like walking and running down the street isn't a good idea, some might have food addictions, etc. There's a lot of reasons why.I've just always been curious about how much diet is linked to obesity, and if a change in diet is usually the answer (with exercise of course).
Where I live, I do indeed see people a lot of who are in motorized carts or cannot barely walk due to obesity.
I wonder if that's because they are poor on food stamps and buying junk food?
Good to read, but I actually lost weight now that I live in the food desert compared to before. When I was in the IRTS facility and hospital, I developed somewhat of a potbelly that I no longer have (and my six pack is back). There's a lot of different reasons. As a foster child I lived at a place where they had dairy cows and they would skim all the cream off the top of the milk and fill jars of straight cream.
I would down jars of straight cream putting thousands of calories into myself instantly, and it never caused me to gain weight like I was hoping it would.
How fat were you and what did your friend say to you that made you want to change your diet and exercise?Just watch the BertIsFat/TomIsFat podcasting battle on either YMH, JRE, or the BertCast. Fat shaming is good, when it is amongst friends fat shaming strangers can get toxic. So there is an area where I think it is totally beneficial and a lot of other ares where it can be detrimental maybe push that fatty into eating more and gaining more.
You got to trigger the fat person into "**** you mode, I can do this." Then they will start turning their life around.

Were you 400-plus pounds when you got in your motor bike wreck? That sounds very dangerous. My orthopedist actually was the kicker. I had a knee injury in February this year he sad cause I was fat and most likely lazy that I couldn't make a full recovery in 2 months and I would be in rehab for 6 months to 1 year. Since then I have lost 50 kgs, 110 lbs and I also made a full recovery in 7 weeks.
I am Currently 154 kgs(339 lbs), from 204kgs(449 lbs). But I know I will be on the heavy side but I am also tall standing at 203 cm. (6'8")
I'm guessing you will continue to lose weight at the rate you're going. Were you 400-plus pounds when you got in your motor bike wreck? That sounds very dangerous.
Congratulations on losing so much weight!
I love fat people. Chris Farley and John candy and so many people are more charming or amusing when they are obese.
I don't shame obese people but @Cacotopia said it was fat-shaming that caused him to lose weight.
Is fat shaming good in a situation like that with those results?
Or you could mind your own business. If I had a friend who constantly harped on my weight, they would not be my friend for long. It's one thing to show concern when someone is obviously suffering and their health is failing, like with those who have diabetes or can't walk. But it's quite another to bully and harrass people about it.If you have fat friends and you don't tell them to lose weight and allow them to slowly kill themselves you are a terrible friend.
okay, but what about if you were a healthy weight and you had a friend who was morbidly obese, and you saw them eating twinkies and cupcakes all the time. They are hurting themselves badly, and potentially killing themselves.Or you could mind your own business. If I had a friend who constantly harped on my weight, they would not be my friend for long. I'd talk about their diet with them, sure. We could try to eat healthier together.okay, but what about if you were a healthy weight and you had a friend who was morbidly obese, and you saw them eating twinkies and cupcakes all the time. I mean, isn't that similar to telling an addict to stop using drugs?
