Can Old Age be Beautiful?

I often enough hear people say things to the effect that nudity is only attractive or appropriate in people who are in good physical condition and/or sexually attractive. That is, they don't say it in exactly that way, but that's pretty much the gist or meaning of what they do say.

Do you believe they have a point? If so, why? If not, why not?

As for myself, I think the artist and photographer Imogen Cunningham might have the last word on the matter -- to me, at least, her nude portrait of Morris Graves stands out as a testament to how people can be beautiful even into old age.

We are God's creation and are born nude. Perhaps those who are indignant about nudity are scorning the Creation of God, and are the minions of satan? I've seen so many nekid folk, who cares?

"Minions of Satan"? Isn't that a wee bit of a harsh term for people who merely harbor aesthetic opinions that one disagrees with? Makes me think anyone who drinks Bud Lite might just as easily be termed a "minion of Satan" -- by that standard.

I think our bodies (rather than minds) are attracted to people who have similar looks in age. It's a biological thing to relate to those who are like you in built. Common connection. My words are off.

Mentally, it depends on the area. In the states, we see youth attractive and age not. The mentality just shares the example above. It's more of a mental issue. Anyone can be with other people of any appropriate age. Ask a married couple for upteenth years. In some point in life, it's not important. However, ask if a person who is eighty would be with someone who is twenty. Both are adults.

It's perspective and cultural issues.

OK, sorry. I repent.

Hi,
I am replying to the title more than to the post itself..
Can old age be beautiful..
Yes and No..

Yes in the sense that you start to think realistically..
You feel how short is life..
And you accept your share..
And try to enjoy what you have..
This is my life and these are the people who share it with me..
I have to enjoy being with them and let them enjoy being with me..

What is not for me is not for me..

Then you realize that time passes quickly and you have to work to active the real goals you are after..

no more running after the far dreams...

Then there is the other side of the old age...
You are losing your hair (for most men)..
gradually you are losing your physical strength..
your loved ones are getting older too..
You fear losing some of them..
And fear not having a chance to do many things that you wanted to do..

Life is sooo ( i don't know what word to use here :) )

Can Old Age be Beautiful?

If old age is Beautiful, all I can say is beauty sure is painful and crippling.

I have had close to 500 stitches put in me, and that is just in my face and head. Who knows how many total in the rest of my body. I don't know if people are just being nice, but they say it adds character and a rugged manliness to me. Maybe so, but every year as I get more Beautiful, it hurts a little more.

We are biologically programmed to find certain physical traits sexually attractive. And those traits are generally those of young bodies because that's the ideal time for procreation.

However, we humans are more than just biologically programmed animals. And therefor we are capable of appreciating traits other than and beyond those conducive to procreation. After all, the human animal engages in sexual activity far more often for the sake of shared pleasure and pair-bonding than for the sake of procreation. And the traits conducive to these activities are different from those conducive to procreation, alone. Thus, we will find these traits attractive as well, and perhaps even more-so. And these traits can and do manifest in people beyond the age of ideal procreation.

So yes, I believe that the more 'human' we are, the more capable we are of finding each other physically/sexually attractive as we get older.

My goodness!!! Did someone have to put you back together?
I'm so sorry that you are in pain. And I hate the way doctors treat it....so I hope they haven't hooked you on painkillers. :(

I personally think old age is an affront. I don't recognise the person in the mirror anymore.....and no one had to put me back together. Everything succumbs to gravity.....we need to make an appeal about that law. I'm not enjoying it one little bit. o_O

I think the creation of an individual requires a childhood, then a becoming something that they don't choose; but then after knowing themselves they can choose to be something. That is the older beauty: what people have made themselves into.

Umm...I would like to agree in spirit but after seeing your previous thread with images of buxom young ladies, ahem.

I'll hold my tongue. :D

People can certainly age gracefully, and still have beauty in old age (although the most beautiful thing of all is a young and energetic spirit in one's hoary years, and a warm smile imho).

There is a certain beauty in the human body that transcends age. Sure, we wrinkle, sag, weight changes, bones bend, but these are road maps that life has left on us from living. Then I think about that plumber hunched over my sink and question my thoughts on the matter entirely. I wonder if it is conditional. We all age differently. I still think Helen Mirren is a beautiful woman.

Ah yes, the inner beauty of wisdom and experience.....it doesn't alter the ravages of gravity. The person in the mirror may be older and wiser......but she continues to offend me every day and reminds me constantly of what I can no longer do. We were never meant to get old.....my mind is still 30! What is the point of having a young mind in an old body? :p

Jeanne Calment, a fit and sprightly french woman who lived 122 years 164 days. She drank considerable amounts of wine, and smoked heavily. During her last interview not long before she died she said "i only have one wrinkle...and i'm sitting on it"

Beauty is not only in body but in mind.

Margaret Hamilton used to scare me when I was a small child. The Wicked Witch of the West certainly left a lasting impression. She was not beautiful in the traditional sense, but as she aged, I think she got better looking.

Yep....doing all that.....aging is refusing to be graceful. Why ?

More water? Meditation? Laughter? Those things can make it more graceful too.

Oh, heres a big one. Get free of this evil world system.

Enough sleep too. I hear green tea helps.
