Can one radiate or exude "Hindu-ness"?

Quote Maija, "I want to take the day off and go into San Francisco for this (Janmashtami)" ...

Which temple in S.F.? Just curious.

Anyway, everyone please project "Hindu-ness"!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's experienced this. Sometimes I imagine things and read too much into things, though now less than I used to. So, whether they saw something in me, or it was a fluke, I tell you that, while other people who are running or walking will often give a weak smile (one white guy walking with his wife even winked at me with a sly grin when she wasn't looking!), this was exhuberant.

Who knows, may as well be, the Mighty God Lord Mitra himself chose to flash in you on that particular day. Flukes happen:eek:

Now if we were to rationalise something like this, we would have to look into the kundali (horoscope) of the Jātaka, the muhurtas, the mood of the Devās, various conjunctions, and so. I don't know if such a Jyotish exists who can explain to us such events!

Jaya Jagannatha!
Being a very shy person, I don't often smile or even look others in the eye when I am on the streets and encounter some stranger on the way. With growing Hindu population, hopefully that doesn't offend anyone! :) (I've always admired people who look others in the eye and smile, even if strangers... I've noticed not many Hindustanis do that sadly so I feel very happy to read about your experience, Jai).

I was out for a long walk last night, about 4 miles. As I was walking, an older Indian couple and I approached each other. The gentleman and lady put up their right hands in a palm outward mudrā, just as you see the deities giving blessing, with a smile. I smiled back, nodded my head and said "namaste". We passed each other going our separate ways.

A few minutes later I encountered a younger woman and presumably her daughter. They raised their hands and vigorously waved hello to me with big smiles. I gave a big smile back with a nod of my head.

I did not know these people from Jump Street! I can think of only three things... I had that kind of look that brought out the friendliness in them; they may go to temple and have seen me; they noticed my kanthis (tulsi and rudraksha) which were visible because of the t shirt I was wearing. In any case it was a surreal experience.
"Ramlila" is kind of drama played on Indian streets by local people on famous episode "Ramayana"

This incident of yours reminds me of a small incident which happed with one man who played the role of LION in this drama. After playing his role when that man came down from the theatre stage, suddenly a group of local dogs ran towards him and tear all his costumes :help:

I hope its not that Surreal :D

There is something to it, after all!
