Can You have Complete Faith in God and Simultaneously Believe You Could Conceivably Be Wrong?

nash8

Da man, when I walk thru!
Belief in what?
l see no reason to believe in God. That's pretty much it. What is it l am faithfully believing in based on a lack of belief in God?

You are believing that your defintion of God doesn't exist. Just like you don't believe in purple unicorns on mars.

Just because you are believe something doesn't exist or isn't real, doesn't mean that it is not a belief.

Okay. Sure. If you want to put it like that, then its a belief. l also hold a belief that there are no purple unicorns on Mars. l also believe that this life is not a mere dream, and we die when the host awakens. Hard to prove that last one.

How does that move any discussion forwards? Equating all beliefs as equal is not something I would subscribe to. I believe the Celtics will miss the playoffs next year, but I believe there are no purple unicorns on Mars more strongly.

It's a strange way to think about the world. I believe in the existence of things I have reason to believe in, and believe the rest don't exist, if you want me to do the semantic gymnastics.

Would you give your belief in God and lack of belief in the celestial teapot equal validity? Or Dionysus? Ganesha?

Many folks believe there is life out there somewhere on a distant planet. There is no evidence to support this belief. This is the best example I have to the similarities of a belief in God.

I find it amusing that so many folks entertain this belief but completely dismiss religion.

Sumerian Star charts point to another Earth planet called Nibiru near Sirus.

It's supposedly about 36 light years away from us, the real question is how would you transverse 36 light years.

Hmm...l can have a crack at explaining that, at least from my point of view.

As an atheist, I don't see life on Earth as unique, or of a higher purpose. Life exists here, so there is no reason it couldn't elsewhere. That life might be single-celled, intelligent or nonexistent. Who knows? You could kinda call me agnostic about this concept. If forced to guess yes or no, I'd go yes. But only because Im backing the size of the universe to sooner or later create the required circumstances.

I see belief in God not like belief in some sort of alien life, but more like belief in a specific form of alien life. Pale blue men with bulbous heads and big eyesfor example. After all, some people have claimed to have seen them, so there is evidence, of a certain type.
And of that sort of belief, I'd again count myself a weak atheist.
