I don't know if I have a spirit that leaves my body and goes to heaven. I have a problem with the idea of the spirit. Half of me believes Methodism might be right. And the other half of me believes Jehovah's witnesses might be right.

In my view whether or not you come to that decision doesn’t really affect your salvation, it only decides what company you will keep as conformists will demand you believe what they believe in order to associate with you.

Do you really need the pressure of conformists?

No, sorry, I am currently unable to reply to your post...

But in the meantime. There is no proof, evidence of a spiritual existence. So no good reason to believe a spirit leaves your body.

I don't think anyone could fault you for not believing currently. However if you die and find out differently, I guess you'll know at that time.

How would anyone currently alive be able to answer this question for you? Certainly not from personal experience. So then personal belief?

Nothing to write home about.

Personally, I do believe that we have a soul that survives death. Do I know this? Of course not, but I do believe that there must be something beyond this.

There are a lot of people who have had near death experiences. They are pretty much all the same. In October, 1983, I had a vision of my own death. I know there is a Heaven and a Hell, and I know there is life after death.

How do you know these experience weren't created by your subconscious mind?
You know like a dream is except you were semi-conscious at the time?
Your unconscious mind does create dreams for you right? So it's not like it is not capable of doing so.

I can't comment on NDE but I have had OBE. They can feel very real. They can be very convincing. So I don't doubt your experience, just there might be alternate explanations.

I just believe the Bible. You have a spirit and it stays in your body until you die.

Not that I'm trying to debate against your views, but what else do you need? What else beyond this life is needed?

If I died tomorrow or in next minute, I'm ok with that. Basically satisfied with the life I had.

Do you feel that if there is no "afterlife" experience, life/living is missing something?

Curious about your response, "there must be something beyond this". Why?

Which view of the Jehovah Witnesses do you believe is right?:

“The dead know nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) When we die, we cease to exist. Source

Or this one:

"Death is like sleep in that the dead are unconscious and cannot do anything." Source

You can be "unconscious" or you can "cease to exist" but you can't possibly be both. I've never known anyone who ceased to exist when they became unconscious. The two states by definition are mutually exclusive.

You will need to clarify which Witness belief you lean towards, unless you believe you have the option of one or the other when you die. There may be some sort of "pre-plan" or "opt out" they make available to members.

I have also had a couple of OBE's when I was a teenager. In the first one, I was stareing into a mirror steadfastly deep into my own eyes. My consciousness transferred from myself to the image in the mirror. I almost didn't get my consciousness back and it scared me so much, I never did it again. In the second one, I was hovering at the ceiling above my body which was in bed. I don't know if I was asleep or awake. My vision was just like a dream, except I was awake. It ran thru my mind in a matter of seconds, but when I recount it, it takes a couple minutes.

I don't know why, it's just how I feel about it. No one as far as I know has gone to the other side and returned with a report, unless one finds NDE accounts real. Even if a person does, that still requires faith in the person's honesty regarding the experience. Must there be life beyond this one? No. But I like to think there is something better than this.

Not completely accurate

Science is below mind
Spirituality is beyond mind

So it would be correct to claim:
"there is no scientific proof, evidence of spirits"

And it would be wrong to claim:
"There is no proof, evidence of spirits"

This would only imply that you dismiss Spiritual Reality without having any proof nor without ever followed all the required steps as per Scriptures. That in itself is not an accepted approach, not in science, not in Spirituality.

Correct that you claim:
"For me no good reason to believe a spirit leaves the body".

*) Truth is beyond words. As is "Spirituality is beyond mind"

So I can't give you any written proof:)

I don't know either.

In my ignorance, I choose not to say. I accept my lack of knowledge, therefore don't make positive statements about spiritual stuff.

I wouldn't be too concerned. No one knows if we have a spirit or not. It's just nice to think about being eternal. Just worry about the life you are living now.
