Can you Unravel the Mystery?

Muffled

Jesus in me
Ageed, I do not believe God's law is nailed to the cross which was a false accusation made by @2ndpillar along with the rest of his post of twisted scripture that I do not believe. It is the penalty our sins that is nailed to the cross for all those who believe and accept the gift of Gods dear son (Romans 6:23).
I believe that is incorrect. It is not the penalty for our sins; it is our sins that are nailed to the cross. Col. 2:13 ... having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

You are correct but so was what I posted earlier. It is both our sins and the penalty for our sins (death) that is nailed to the cross in Jesus. Keep reading.. Colossians 2:14... "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross" The penalty of sin is death which is against us which was nailed to the cross which was what I posted earlier. Jesus also paid the penalty for our sins with His own life which is what Colossians 2:13 says. Sin and its penalty are not separate just as our salvation is not separate from Jesus dying for our sins in order that we can receive Gods forgiveness. see Romans 6:23 23, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

I believe canceling the legal penalty does not get us off the hook for the natural results of sin. The person who drinks too much can still get a hangover.

Sure it does. Jesus paid the penalty (death) for our sins with His own sinless life so that we can receive Gods forgiveness and everlasting life. This is the good news of the gospel - see John 3:16; John 3:36. There is nothing that you do do to earn Gods salvation as it is a free gift of Gods grace for everyone who believes - Ephesians 2:8-9.

There are several ways that God's mercy and wisdom from Him can help us. But the last enemy to be done away with is death, according to the scriptures. And some of us are looking forward to that.

Natural results of sin are many. We are subject to these.

On her forehead was written a name, a mystery: “Babylon the Great, the mother of the prostitutes and of the disgusting things of the earth.”
Revelation 17:5

Notable features
Babylon the Great is described as
  • the great prostitute
  • sitting on many waters,
  • committed sexual immorality with the kings of the earth
  • making earth’s inhabitants drunk with the wine of her sexual immorality
  • sitting on a scarlet-colored wild beast
  • clothed in purple and scarlet
  • adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls
  • having in her hand a golden cup that was full of disgusting things and the unclean things of her sexual immorality
  • the mother of the prostitutes and of the disgusting things of the earth
  • drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus
  • the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth

Additional clues to unravel the mystery
  • (Revelation 17:9-13) 9 The seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top. 10 And there are seven kings: Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet arrived; but when he does arrive, he must remain a short while. 11 And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also an eighth king, but it springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction. 12 “The ten horns that you saw mean ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they do receive authority as kings for one hour with the wild beast. 13 These have one thought, so they give their power and authority to the wild beast.
  • (Revelation 17:15) . . .“The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is sitting, mean peoples and crowds and nations and tongues.
  • (Revelation 18:3) . . .the merchants of the earth became rich owing to the power of her shameless luxury. . .
  • (Revelation 18:5) . . .her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind. . .
  • (Revelation 18:7) . . .she glorified herself and lived in shameless luxury. . . she keeps saying in her heart: ‘I sit as queen, and I am not a widow, and I will never see mourning.
  • (Revelation 18:22-23) 22 . . .the sound of singers who accompany themselves on the harp, of musicians, of flutists, and of trumpeters will never be heard in you again. And no craftsman who practices any trade will ever be found in you again, and no sound of a millstone will ever be heard in you again. 23 No light of a lamp will ever shine in you again, and no voice of a bridegroom and of a bride will ever be heard in you again; for your merchants were the top-ranking men of the earth, and by your spiritistic practices all the nations were misled.

What is the identity of Babylon the Great?
These features, and references leaves us in no doubt! The Mother Harlot, Babylon the Great can be nothing other than religion. Notably, since she has God's displeasure, she has to be false religion. This is supported by the warning God gives... “Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues. For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind. . . (Revelation 18:4-5)

Thus, keeping in consistency with scripture, Babylon the Great represents all religion that is false from God's perspective.
What else can it be, based on scriptural references?
The pagan Roman Empire!
Thanks

Babylon is a pagan Goddess.

These you wrote

  • the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth

are all true.

Isn't she a great Goddess?:)
Liberty is a pagan goddess, you can find the idolatrous statue of her in New York harbor, it’s interesting that the godless French Revolution and the American Revolution are the same Revolution, same instigators (Freemason’s “sons of the morning” like Lucifer) same colors, same motto!
Thanks

A few things evidently would rule out the Roman Empire.
  1. Babylon the Great commits sexual immorality with the kings of the earth - Revelation 17:2 ...of which the Roman Empire is a part.
  2. Babylon the Great rides these kings and kingdoms - I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet-colored wild beast - Revelation 17:3 ...of which the Roman Empire is a part.
  3. (Revelation 17:9-12) 9 The seven heads mean seven mountains, where the woman sits on top. 10And there are seven kings: Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet arrived; but when he does arrive, he must remain a short while. 11 And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also an eighth king, but it springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction. 12 “The ten horns that you saw mean ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but they do receive authority as kings for one hour with the wild beast.

When John wrote Revelation, the Roman Empire was ruling.
Hence, when he said, "one is", he referred to the Roman Empire

The prostitute is not a horn, nor a beast, so she is not categorized as a king, nor governmental system.
In fact, the angel said, “The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is sitting, mean peoples and crowds and nations and tongues. And the ten horns that you saw and the wild beast, these will hate the prostitute and will make her devastated and naked, and they will eat up her flesh and completely burn her with fire. ...And the woman whom you saw means the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth.” (Revelation 17:15-18)

She is signified as a great city, which has authority, over the kings of the earth and the wild beast... which includes the Roman Empire, and she has authority over people internationally.
The pagan Roman Empire was also a religion, with many gods and goddesses of which the Christian was commanded to worship (offer sacrifice) or be put to death, “drunk with the blood of the saints” and another is the fact that it was conquered by Christ in one hour!
Thanks

It was code for Mary.
If the mother of Jesus is a harlot, what does that make Jesus?

Biblical principles

A good tree!

Matthew 7:18
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

The fruit of the tree of Mary is our salvation! Matt 1:21 Lk 2:30 Jesus is our salvation! This reflects the immaculate conception of Mary and the miraculous conception of Jesus!
Lk 1:30 Mary found our salvation!
Lk 1:38 consented to our salvation!

A good tree (immaculate conception) Lk 1:49 God has done this and it is marvelous in our eyes!

Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matt 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

A sinner would be an evil tree with evil fruit, but the fruit of Mary is salvation!

Mary brings in the good fruits of our redemption and salvation!

So Mary CANNOT be a sinner or a bad tree!

Mary’s throne is the throne of divine grace! Heb 4:16

Christ cannot take flesh and blood from a sinner!
The Holy Spirit cannot conceive in a sinner!

Anything consecrated to God’s service must “holy” and for His purpose only!

The ark of the covenant is a type of Mary!

The temple “dwelling place of God” was also a type of Mary!

Thanks

This cannot be the Babylonian Empire, which was destroyed much earlier than the end of the 1st century, when John made these records.
Most likely, the evil deeds that were committed in this empire are associated with the name of Babylon.
It also cannot be a state. The text goes on to show that there is a difference between the kings and the figurative Babylon. The last verse of the 17th chapter also says that this figurative "great capital" has an influence on the kings of the earth.
Babylon was a early church code word for pagan Rome

1 Peter 5:13
The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.

I believe New York fits some things. It is a city on many waters being an island and sitting along a river. It is a Babylon having a great many people speaking different languages. It might also be considered a ruler of the nations by dint of having the United Nations building.

She’s called a Harlot for a reason….
In ancient times, harlots were called harlots, because of their unfaithfulness. So apparently she’s supposed to be loyal / faithful to someone, but cheats and is more loyal to others.

Let the bible tell us who this Harlot is. The city of Jerusalem

Isaiah 1:21 "How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers."

101G.
This is useful.

Sorry, Jerusalem is not on seven hills. The only city that meets this description is the pagan city of Rome.

The key to a harlot is that she performs her sinfulness for money.
