Actually, the Fox article does not even mention homosexuals.Homosexuals? Is that what RW media is spinning scaring everyone? Are you sure it's not transgenders? So silly..
Unfortunately (and unlike the US), God does appear in our foundational laws: the Charter of Rights and Freedoms begins with "whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law..."Just like our pledge of allegiance.
I just start mumbling when it comes around to "under God..."
Secular my ****.
And yet still you lack the "evolution vs creationism" debate that America has. We're the one who is officially secular, but yet so many are bound in various ways to various religious-based laws. Religious laws are supposed to be promoted by the state, but in many states the church is calling the shots in public schools. If you ask me, America is secular in name only. Or maybe it's just my part, where I can't even buy a bottle of beer or rum to cook with on a Sunday.Unfortunately (and unlike the US), God does appear in our foundational laws: the Charter of Rights and Freedoms begins with "whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law..."
Also, there's the legal bird's nest that ends up with our head of state being head of a church. :-/
The church literally calls the shots in many Canadian schools. My tax dollars help fund a system of Catholic schools that run in parallel to the Catholic boards. As a non-Catholic, I'm not allowed to vote in elections for Catholic school board trustees, but I get to pay for them. And yet still you lack the "evolution vs creationism" debate that America has. Sounds like Toronto needs a little good ole American "Shock and Awe" to rescue them from tyranny. As a non-Catholic, I'm not allowed to vote in elections for Catholic school board trustees, but I get to pay for them.
So, it seems we're screwed regardless. The church literally calls the shots in many Canadian schools. My tax dollars help fund a system of Catholic schools that run in parallel to the Catholic boards. The ultra liberal Gov'ment of Canada changes it's anthem to avoid any possible insult to
homosexuals.
Really?
Must be nice. We hear our anthem before pretty much any sporting event, many TV and radio stations play at midnight (I think it comes from the days when most of them actually signed off for the day), and even when some amusement parks open they play the anthem, even at small county race tracks and wrestling events from the local indy wrestlers all the way up to the WWE. Even some time after 9/11 there was a national day where everybody at some point in time during the day was supposed to stand for it (or maybe it was the pledge...it has been awhile). Some people even pride themselves in known the second and third, or how many verses are in it that are rarely sang.Homosexuals? I think you mean feminists. A gay son is still a son. And, who cares? Aside from hockey games it might as well not exist.
They play it before sporting events and at the beginning of school days here, too.Must be nice. When you live in America, you just don't get away from it because it's everywhere.
