Captain Sir Tom Moore has died.

Not at all. I just think our media have this mawkish tendency to Diana-ise anyone like this and that is what is happening here. It's faked up schmaltz for some bloke none of us knew and it's out of proportion. People of his generation (like my parents) would never go in for this.
Ha ha! So you won't be going outside to clap for the NHS and Tom at 6pm then. .?? :p

And what on earth is 'mawkish' ?

No I didn't and nor did anyone else round here, as far as I could tell. That was just Bozo trying to pike in on the chap's death. Moore was a good egg, a gentlemen, and by a fluke raised a lot of money. But I didn't know him, any more than I knew the Princess of Wales.

Well I will remember him in my own way.
I will not be clapping at 6.00pm
BUT I will clap when the NHS is properly funded.
Fair enough..... :)

I went out at 6pm and clapped, I was keen to see how many did the same, to see if it was like the NHS handclaps of last spring.

The whole street from the fields all the way to the cliff was out.

That's the thing..... the actions of a determined ancient gentleman causing the majority of four countries to feel such fondness, all together, the togetherness...... Well, that's how I see it.

Yes, we can agree that Sir Tom was a gentleman, ever so.

Boris... Bozo? My wife knows everything and calls him BoJo.

You mentioned how our past generations would never have raised spirits together for such a dear old chap, or Diana for that matter. We're never returning to those mindsets exchemist. The class system and the racism, sexism, other bigotries... No.

And that was another aspect of Tom's character not particularly mentioned yet. He beat the class system by rising from the ranks to receive a field comission. Did you ever read the Sharp novels? Cornwell described such amazing feats quite well, I remember.

Fair enough.

I get my 1st Covid jab on Saturday.
I don't know which I'll receive but at least it will be a vaccine.

Don't know when I'll get mine. I think I'm in the 5th group to get them (ie over 65's) I'll patiently await my time.
My Mum & Dad are 90+ and are still awaiting the second jab.
