Well since the report you refer to was published in 2004, i.e. 18 years ago, it's hardly surprising the events it relates to took place more than 20 years ago. Is there really no more recent report than this?

It would be useful to know how many of the victims were over 18 years old and how many were minors. Does the report contain this information?

Because the priesthood is restricted to celibate males, of course. The prospect of an all-male environment for the whole of your life is more offputting to heterosexual men than to those with homosexual inclinations. (And then there's all the dressing up, of course.)

feelings see the priesthood as a way of coping with their
orientation...one which must be denied. By swearing off
sex, perhaps they imagine a way of resisting temptation,
purging their sinful desires, & practicing penance.
But many later discover their feelings are not so easily
denied, & become expressed in heinous ways because
normal relationships are impossible. Children are vulnerable,
offering the secrecy that adults wouldn't.

Most of these abuse cases occurred decades before. The 2004 report covered these decades.

That's where the statistics about the homosexual nature of most cases was uncovered.
