Its not a poll, but I wonder what childhood stories you remember hearing. In my childhood I remember:
How the Elephant Got Its Trunk
Why Mosquitoes Always Buzz in People's Ears
The Nutcracker
Peter and the Wolf
(also the usual nursery stories such as the three little pigs, cinderella etc)

This is one I recall from when I was a small child:

It seemed perfectly plausible to me at the time, to rig up a hockey stick with an electric fan and umbrella - and as many extension cords he could borrow from around the neighborhood. Then, fly all over the world - at least until you run out of cord.

Little red riding hood
Watership down
Treasure Island
Lord of the flies
And several others I can't remember.

I couldn't read back then, mom or dad would read them to me.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

I was a Curious George person as well as a big Richard Scarry fan.

I also immensely enjoyed Aesops Fables.

I keep catching myself singing Winnie The Pooh over the last few days...

I listened to a lot of stories on cassette while I was falling asleep as a kid. A lot were Disney, so I remember a lot of those.

When I started school I remember the teacher used to read to us each day and I loved this. I recall listening to Babar the Elephant from this time and Brer Rabbit too. I do not recall anybody reading to me at home. I was a quick learner with reading and still remember the first book.

I had a Curious George book and an accompanying 45 record. I memorized the book and pretended to read it to my parents once.

That was when Disney was good and something special.

I grew up watching the Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night. It was usually on after Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

Disneyland was kind of fun, too, at least as I remember it. It's changed quite a bit since when I visited a few times as a kid. They don't have America Sings or Monsanto's Adventures Through Inner Space anymore.

I don't remember any other than bible stories in scripture at school, Noahs Ark, The Good Samaritan, David and Goliath, Jonah And the whale... stuff like that. I grew up on a dairy so there wasn't much time for anything other than sleeping, eating and milking.

Not sure how young you mean, but Dr Zeuss and the Berenstein Bears, definitely. Also this little set of historical books. Asterix as I got a little older.
Also had this set of classics, but simplified for kids. Everything from David Copperfield, to Sherlock Holmes, to Edgar Allan Poe...don't remember what the set was called.
By about ten I was reading Fighting Fantasy, Dragonlance, etc. Nerd.
