China bans video game trailer due to footage from Tiananmen Square massacre

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Many people have argued that China is communist in name only. After all, a lot of American companies do business with China and take advantage of China's supply of cheap labor. For decades, we've been importing Chinese goods and making them quite wealthy in the process. Meanwhile, our trade deficit has gone through the roof. Chinese communists and American capitalists have been in bed with each other a long time, while the common people in both countries get screwed.
I agree about them being in bed together. Profit over principle is the creed of the day.

It does have advantages of communism over principle as a creed de jour.
Things have gotten much better for family over there. They're now even
allowed to travel abroad....if they're careful what they say publicly.

My nieces were born in China. The red tape, and grand expense my Brother in law had to go through to adopt them which required travel into China to bring them home.

I know people who went thru that too.
(Things were easier with Korea...no travel required.)
But that was nuthin compared to what people endured
during the Great Leap Forward & other such positively
labeled horrors. A relative re-connected with a friend
who stayed after the revolution so he could help his
country. He was imprisoned, & lived on bugs & mice
there for a long time. (They didn't want his help.)
Very lucky to have survived....or was he?

He had a good time although the bus and housing was heavily monitored and his movement restricted and coordinated by Chinese authorities.

China is desperately trying to not fulfill the "Mandate of Heaven" (also why they rotate top generals from region to region). They control all media, thereby controlling their population. The views on the world my in-laws in China have, that they get from CCTV and Chinese news papers is vastly different than what we see as going on. So no negative press or images to change the mind of the population.
Mandate of Heaven - Wikipedia seems accurate to me

But are they really? They're certainly authoritarian, but they seem to have developed quite the love affair with capitalism over the past few decades.
The rulers care about ruling. Being authoritarian with greedy capitalists doing what they're told is just fine with them.

Do you suppose they banned it out of shame or out of cold-hearted rejection?

...One has to wonder the truth.
They banned it for the same reason that American video games consistently avoid talking about American racial issues: Politics.

That's really stretching to link two unrelated topics.

...Video game makers are not suppressing the free speech of others in any way similar to the way the Chinese government does.

Do you have evidence that video game makers are politically motivated?

Some developers have kissed China's *** and self-censored so they can sell their products on the Chinese market. An example would be removing blood and certain symbols from the western version of Rainbow Six Siege rather than making a separate version for the Chinese. Another example would be an American company banning a competitive player from a tournament for sharing a pro Hong Kong democracy message because they were afraid china would ban their products.

Okay, a form of political motivation is noted. But still, nothing in comparison to the way the Chinese government takes rights away from others.

Nobody has denied that the Chinese government is abusive and authoritarian.

I thought @Tambourine was suggesting that there was some kind of relationship between China's banning of the trailer and the developers not mentioning racism in their games.

...I have a feeling though, that regardless of anything, I'll be the one who's wrong about something.

I can’t speak for @Tambourine
But politics in video games, particularly amount American “gamers” is something of a sore subject.
A certain part of that community has somehow convinced themselves and others that “contentious” political messages (like showing people of colour or women) is some kind of SJW conspiracy. Or that games are suddenly “too political.”
Commonly referred to as “chuds” in the circles I run in.
In other words, much like the Chinese government doesn’t like criticism, an embarrassing portion of “gamers” don’t like thinking about their consumption of media and instead demand flaccid impotent gaming content bereft of artistic merit.
At least that’s how I view things.
