unfortunatly you are more than likely right , ....they already have control by substitution of the Panchen lama who will be called upon to identify the next incarnation of the Dalai lama , ....so they are free to identify and keep any subsequent Dalai Lama under their control only way to stop this is to publicaly declare that there will be no reincarnation ......

smart move your Holiness , ...the Chinese must be Livid , .....

His next anouncement will be very interesting .

in spite of my respect and simpathy for the tibetan buddhism, it always sounded me strange and artificial their behaviour in looking for the reincarnation of their spiritual leader. Now comes the chinese government with this absurd decree.
Seems people are trying to rule reincarnation, instead of being ruled by it.

Thanks. Just needed a bit more context there to make the difference. So it's more a political statement against an aggressive China.

It might be a political statement, of that I can't be sure, only the Dalai Lama himself could answer that one. But based on the back and forth between the PRC and the Tibetans in exile it is a possibility
