Chinese scientists 'filmed UFO for 40 minutes'

From what I read a few days ago I think it was observed by a group of students at an observatory. Seems interesting and genuine, and I hope it is real, but who knows what the object really is.

Hi all

Here is a "official" explanation from the Chinese Government: It’s an unidentified object, but ‘not a UFO’

The British newspaper quoted Ji as having said: "During the July 22 total solar eclipse observation, China had discovered near the sun an unidentified object, it's physical nature remains to be further studied."
Ji said he doesn't know why his explanation about a bright spot close to the sun, very likely to be the result of some coronal activity filmed during the total eclipse, was misunderstood.
"Obviously, there have been misunderstandings," Ji says while speaking to China Daily.

Well, it was actually astronomer Ji Haisheng who claims he was misquoted and never said it was a UFO, but an "unidentified object", and that he thought the anomaly was simnply a coronal effect.

Oops...
I find it fascinating how people want to distort the facts to match their own expectations. In the twinkling of an eye an obscure coronal effect becomes a ship piloted by little gray men. Oy vey, eh?

There is a Chinese news video clip, anyone fluent in Chinese?
When I was in China I became somewhat fluent in Mandarin, but this is Cantonese. However because they do share many words I was able to make out some of what they said. One of the men was saying, "Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's . . . ." Unfortunately, I couldn't make out the next word.

These people are dense. How can it be a UO without being a UFO? UFO doesn't imply anything other than unidentified flying object. If it's in the air it's flying, look up the definition. Floating is considered flying. Although if it disappeared then it would have to be moving too.
By definition, but the term UFO by common usage is synonymous with an alien aircraft. An unidentified object can be anything, but saying "confirmed UFO sighting," even though that is what the scientist said, putting it like that puts a whole new meaning on it.
It would be interesting if this is real, considering 40 minutes would be a long time to be filmed (that would make it seem as if they wanted to be seen), but I can't see it being anything more than a coronal effect.

Only the lemmings believe that UFO=Little Green Men. ;)

The UFO world is alive with speculation that China is about to reveal details of startling and detailed footage of an unidentified flying object taken during the solar eclipse on July 22.
