Christian: Are Heaven and Hell Eternal?

*Paul*

Sorry, Paul, you lost me. You're saying that when a wicked person dies, he is not judged immediately and cast into Hell. Instead, he is kept in waiting in hellfire. Obviously, if he is kept in waiting in hellfire, he has been judged. And if he is already waiting in hellfire when the Last Judgment rolls around, what is he waiting for -- to be judged and cast into hellfire? What am I missing here?

The judgement of the wicked takes place after the 1000 year rule of Jesus, all who have missed the ressurection of the righteous will be raised at this great white throne judgement, and judged according to the deeds they have done, it stands to reason then that they have not yet been judged. When a wicked person dies now they go to hell, but this is not their final place, it is the place where they await their final judgement.
The earthly version of this is when a person is kept in prison awaiting their court hearing after which they are often sentenced to ...prison. This is where Lazarus went who refused to show mercy to the beggar went and is now.

Thanks for your explanation, Paul. It sounds to me as if you believe in a sort of a general kind of judgment that immediately follows death and a more "persona", if you will, one at a later time. The reason I say this is that if a wicked person dies and goes to hell immediately, to be judged later on, he obviously has at least been determined to be wicked. Would you agree?

Friend Kmkemp,
Heaven/hell are concepts created by man himself that till one achieves salvation man lives in hell.
Life itself is eternal and so are the concepts of hell/heaven.
Reality there are no places anywhere which is hell or heaven they are imaginary.
Imaginations come from the mind. Only a FREE mind is alive to existence and that itself is salvation - A FREE mind, real freedom.

Self-explanatory. I have a feeling that one side of the equation has more certain evidence than the other, but I figured it would be good to look at the question in a two-sided manner for those that believe our souls are eternal.

I believe our afterlives are eternal. The Word explains that one will pass into eternal damnation or eternal life with Christ. I also believe one essentially chooses how they will spend eternity by their actions and choices in this life time.

They are not judged, but like Judas they "go to their place", where they belong or where their nature is fitted for. I think that when a person dies angels or devils take their souls to the appropriate place. They are judged as unjust in a general sense, not after they die but during their life time, their death is the perpetual seal of their final condition. I think you are more or less understanding me now on this. The purpose of the final judgement may determine the severity of their damantion, Jesus talks about some receiving the greater damnation than others.
It would be wrong for Ghandi to suffer the same torment as Hitler for example.

Well, Paul... It looks like we agree on something.
That makes a pleasant change. :) So long as you know that I meant that Ghandi should not recieve the same degree of torment as Hitler, i'm not sure if that came through. (I'm always suspicious when we agree lol).

Well, I'm sure you think Ghandi will receive far greater torment in the next life than I do, but hey, let's go with whatever common ground we can find. :)

Hell - Yes, Hell is an eternal prison of Satan and his angels. Humans do not go there.
Heaven - Yes, Heaven is part of God, and God is eternal.
