Christian: Are Worship Teams scriptural???

Allow me to ask a question if I may, NetDoc.

Do you believe that musical instruments should be used in the worship service?

"Should" or "can"?

I enjoy the a'capella tradition, but it's just that. A tradition that many have made into a doctrine.

I see. At any rate my take on it is this: We must worship the Lord in exactly the manner He has prescribed for us. I don't see the lack of a commandment as authority for anything.
Look at Nadab and Abihu, Aaron's sons. They offered strange fire before the LORD and they were killed for it. THey knew what God commanded them to do, but they went ahead and did something else that they thought would please God. That story tells me that If there is neither a commandment for nor example of it, we musn't do it. But that's just me. What do you think NetDoc?

***MOD POST***

Ladies and gentlemen, please stay on topic. This is about Worship Teams, not the role of women. If someone says something that you disagree with or find offensive, please PM them instead of doing it in this thread! You may also report it.

Matthew 26:6. While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table. 8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked. 9 "This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor." 10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.

I have learned a TON about true worship from this passage. Nowhere did Jesus command ANYONE to worship him in the way this woman did. Yet look at his responce! It was lavish, her VERY BEST, unexpected, done in the open and obviously offended a few people.

It appears to me that while Jesus has abolished the "law", man has done his best to reinstate it with his own. There are just a few things that have been set in stone, and most of those are done to demonstrate our humility towards God and our brothers.

whether or not you think it is disrespectul doesn't make your interpretation true. I am myself a woman and I find the true interpretation of that verse that women are not to preach in a congregation or teach men spiritual things. Look in the Bible though, it says women can teach other women and children, but not men. I am in no way offended by this teaching so it is most certainly not disrespectful. I respect and honor my God and seek to bring him glory by RIGHTLY DIVIDING scripture. The Bible (king james) is translated correctly and is God's word. If you think that it is mistranslated, then it seems to me that you don't really believe that God's word is infallible and the end to all things.
Um... you contridict yourself because I'm a man, therefor you shouldn't be teaching me what Tim and Cor. means. As a matter of fact you shouldn't be posting, quoting, etc.. from scripture on these forums unless of course you are only addressing women and children. Think about it. But anyways lets not argue about it. I've already recieved a warning and this post will most likely get me another. However I just wanted to point out that according to Tim and Corin. a woman shouldn't be posting about scripture on these forums. God bless you though because we have the same measure of faith...all true christians do. Perhaps this is an exception. Maybe I am wrong and it is taking a woman to correct me. But this would be against Tim and Corinth would it not? I'm a bit puzzled atm to what just happened...

Really we don't even have "scriptural authority" for one song leader. But all churches I know of have someone start/lead the songs.

People in the Bible worshipped with instruments, but really, worship is of the heart. God knows if you are truly worshipping and praising him from the heart or not. We tend to become to legalistic about things like this. I think its great that people will at least attempt to worship God in any way they can. As long as it is decent and in order, and is motivated by our gratefulness and love to God for his free gift of eternal life, play whatever instruments you want.
