Christianity and atheism versus Islam

No religious beliefs
I agree they did have a respectful conversation but from her point of view. She was in bad place and she beliefs that her belief in god brought her out of it. Him saying that god speaks nonsense is tough for her to hear that. she took it well I might say but still I find that brutal, maybe not the best word to use.
For the record Dawkins didn't say, and would never say "god speaks nonsense". He doesn't believe there is a "god". His position is that religious beliefs (by humans) are all inaccurate (nonsense if you like).

It seemed to me that they were talking past each other to some extent. She was relating how her conversion had helped her out of a bad place, and she valued that higher that a strict adherence to truth. He responded that religious beliefs were false and that he valued truth higher than any benefit a person might get from adopting a religious belief. In a sense they were both right, given their different value systems.

Yeah that’s true.

Yes that looked looked liked it. It was awkward to some extent but you could notice they were friends. Both wanted to keep it civil.
She was trying to convince him through his christened identity or culture how ever you say that.

I like Dawkins I'll give it a watch and see what they have to say when I get time.

But I believe Hirsi Ali is wrong to think conservative Christianity is a decent defense against Islam, I believe that part of the reason people are so easily able to swallow the in my view theological BS of Islam is because they were already half indoctrinated to believe in it by the in my view theological BS of Christianity, for example if you believe in Prophets, angels, messages from God and that Jesus was a virgin who raised the dead it is only a little extra BS to believe that he also gave life to a clay bird for example.

If I were in a position to direct Hirsi Ali (which I'm not and never will be thankfully) I would have directed her to secular humanism which seems to me to teach ethics without indoctrinating dogma.
