How are the two religions similar? Christianity says that Jesus is the only way to be saved and Sanatana Dharma is more open when it comes to that.
Hello Ismaila
They are similar as they both recognise God and salvation. Much of the words of Christ himself have a sense of truth in respect to the teaching of Sanatana Dharma. Both have rituals, a temple/Church, community, song/bhajans, priests/pandits etc.
With respect Sanatana Dharma is much wider and dynamic. It draws on many scriptures and teachings. There are different schools of philosophy, Vedanta and forms and names of God. The approach to God is not as limited in Sanatana Dharma.
Also God and His creation are not separated in the same way they are in semitic religions. God in Sanatana Dharma creates, maintains contiously and dissolves in order to create again. Everything depends on God and everything is God. Because of this God is present right now, he is silently present in each being, in their
heart.
Logically then salvation can come through God's grace in this life, as God is present (omnipresent) right now. Salvation can also come from Gurus (teachers who can teach the truth) and through scripture etc.
Sanatana Dharma is a living, evolving way of life. There is a great lineage of gurus and direct messages from God which can lead us to God (salvation) AND there are ways to God in this life now (and predicted for the future). So there isn't only one way to God (i.e. through Christ) but many ways, ways which are open to all and are not limited as God does not limit Himself/Herself.
Strictly speaking it is the Christian Church which restricts i.e. catchesim, dogma etc. I don't mean this nastily, but to explain why Sanatana Dharma embraces all, including other religions, because God is here now and there is nothing which is not God. I am also using "salvation" quite broadly as that too has various differences.
Hope that helps.
