Christians: Charismatic Worship

What are all of your views on charismatic worship? Is it really from God?

Personally, I'm a fan of contemporary worship and feeling God's presence with hand-lifting and all that. However, I am a tad suspicious of those that like to have fits on the floor and start shaking all about.

So, share your views, fellow Christians.

Maybe it's just because I didn't grow up with anything like it, but "charismatic" worship makes no sense to me. I prefer calm, quiet worship. It helps me focus better. My life's already hectic enough without bringing hectic worship into it.

To each their own, if someone believes there are experiencing God who am I to judge? We know that our God is great and I can understand if someone has huge spurt of energy when they are in His presence.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Personally, I find chaos to be disturbing. I don't believe that God is the author of chaos.

However, I don't have a problem with raising hands, dancing during praise, that sort of thing. I wouldn't want to do it all the time, but I think there's a time and place for it. If others need to have that sort of worship more often, more power to em. Just because it's not my thing for regular worship doesn't mean it's wrong.

Falling out on the floor, twitching and hollering and all that sort of thing though, simply seems like crazy behavior to me. I want no part of it.

I even go as far to attend the spoken liturgy at the local Anglican Church because there aren't any hymns.... so put me down as a 'no thanks' to charismatic worship...

Now put me in a drum circle around a camp fire, then I'm able to get focused more easily.

I think there is a time and place for most forms of worship.
However Charismatic worship is not for me.
I mostly attend spoken services.

However Every Easter the Young people from Kent used to walk from all over the county to gaither at Canterbury Cathedral each Easter day. For a celebration of services, song music and Prayer.
I would arrive early in the day to pick up our children and enjoy the celebration.
This is a photo of our priests son taken there in the 70's

People can take the charismatic worship way too far. They also can have the unrealistic expectation that God is supposed to manifest himself in some powerful way through worship. Some people think there's a lack of maturity in the worship when they don't FEEL his presence. Most of the time it's is a sham as far as I'm concerned. We have no concrete scriptural evidence to support that "power" encounters with the Spirit should be the norm when worshiping. It's true that God is there with us when two or more are gathered in his name but you could argue that we're gathered in his name right now. I doubt any of you guys are experiencing a "power" encounter with God. God has done some cool things when people were worshiping like breaking down the walls of Paul's jail. Also the demons ran away from Saul when David was playing for him. The reality is that we're called to live by faith and not sight. That's how we should plan on living and If God shows up and people feel "the thickness of the Spirit" in the room or people start shaking then that's wonderful.
