Christians: Do You Have This Trouble With Sermons?

Hm... I've never come across this problem before. I recently made the effort to go to a mass/service at each of the churches in my town (about 20 in all) and I didn't feel that any of the sermons were targeted mainly at new comers. I suggest looking around your area to see if there are any other churches with pastors whose sermons suit your needs better.

The RCC isn't known for its evangelical tendencies...

I have noticed, throughout the years, that when I hear a sermon, it seems to be directed on either new Christians or at people just wondering if they should accept Christianity. When I go to Church, I want to learn about things that I don't know about- I want to dig deeper into the story of Moses, Abraham, David, etc and deeper into the Gospels on the OT.
Am I expecting too much? Is Church for the new Christian? Are there places you have been that don't preach like that? Sunday School and Bible studies are the same as the sermons, too.

Some churches are VERY focused upon drawing people to Christ - which is cool and needed. Others (less and less it seems) are focused upon teaching and growing believers and providing a firm foundation for beliefs. The Great Commission Jesus gave was to go out and make disciples, which involves a lot of teaching/studying/learning and going in depth into the Bible and your faith.

I would suggest trying a different church, meeting with friends to discuss the topics you want to learn more about and learn together, or speak with the pastor and let him know about your desires to learn more - maybe there are others in the church that feel the same way as you.

Or if you like your church and the people, perhaps see if another local church offers classes or specific Bible studies geared towards instruction and teaching of deeper things.
