Christians: What DO You Think About This?

I turned on TBN last week so that I could watch Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, a Gospel Quartet. While I was watching I saw a commercial for a Jesus Theme Park. They reenact Jesus ministry and the Passion while people watch. They have places for children to play.
What do you think of this idea? Do you think it silly or corny? Do you think it is sacrilegious? Do you like it?
I haven't quite made up my mind yet what I think about it, but my earliest thoughts was that it was kind of corny. :foot:

I should mention that it is in Orlando, Florida.

I personally think that this is an affront to the ministry, example and teaching of Jesus particularly his teachings of "one cannot serve God and mammon", "if any are to be his disciples they are to deny themselves, give all they have to the poor, take up their cross and follow him" and "my house shall be called a house of prayer for all people yet you turned it into a den of thieves" That park is also disturbing in the teaching of the early prophets who told us to "do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God" and "let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever flowing stream" I also take issue with this park because it is ran by Marvin Rosenthal- who was born Jewish yet converted to Christianity. It seems to me like the park's purpose is to convert Jews to his interpretation of Christianity. It is also ran by the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) which aligns with a prosperity gospel- conservative Evangelical slant to it.

I know what you mean, uu_sage. I hardly ever watch TBN, because some of the preachers talk about "getting stuff" through prayer. That really irritates me to death. I only turned it on Friday to see EH&SS.

Hm... I wonder how pious you have to be to ride some of the attractions.

For a total of a hundred percent:angel2:

Kidding aside, it brings back memories to me. I used to portray the role of Joseph and Jesus when I was young ( I do not play the crucifixion part though)..

Turning Christianity into an amusement park; I'm sure our athiest friends are enjoyiong this.

Jesus wept.
I can't enjoy it when the admission price is so high and the Corn Golgothadogs were kind of stale tasting. I didn't weep but I was frustrated- the waiting time to ride The Empty Tomb roller coaster was like three days and three nights, though my friend Mark claims he didn't wait as long.

This is only something that would happen in America. Sweden will never have a "Martin Luther Amusement Park." Italy will never have a "Pope Benedict XVI Sea World." I think it has to do with the amazingly passionate religious conservatives here.

I am a baptized Catholic, but I am now a non-believer. Still, I think I'm qualified to answer. From a Christian perspective, this is absolutely disgusting. Sacrilegious. "Hey, Joe, let's go see the 4 o'clock crucifixion after the 3 o'clock birthing of Christ!" From a non-believer's perspective, this is another reason why we have left religion. The crazies out there are taking over.

I took a look at the website and I don't see much wrong with it. It's actually kind of cool, just a little, to see re-inactments in live performance rather than in movies, etc. What I couldn't tolerate is the fundamentalist slant on everything. While I would never go there myself, I can see how some people would like it.

When I was a Christian, I would have found it incredibly offensive.

Exactly. Not only would I have found it incredibly offensive then, but I am borderline offended NOW and I am not a christian. I have similar feelings about a certain Marvel comic soon to be made into a major motion picture. (NOT Captain America or the Avengers).

I probably wouldn't go to the park, but I see nothing wrong with Christians having fun. I'm sure the atheists couldn't care less what they are doing and if they did see that Christians had fun they just might see that Christians are normal people who do something besides point fingers and condemn others....
Half of the churches would be better off to put the lemons away, wipe the bitter scowl off their face and show some love and put a little joy back in their lives....;)

ChristineES,
The quote you mentioned reminded me of a Bible scripture that says about the same thing, Pr 17:28.
I think it would behoove a person planning on a theme park that reinacted the crucifixion of Jesus would not be pleasing to the Almighty God, Jehovah, who suffered just a Christ did, Patripassionism, Theopaschite. Since God remembers things just as they were, I really do not believe it would make God happy.
Remember, Jesus gave his life Once, for all, and that is what we should remember, a give thanks every day for the great love of God, and His son who was willing to give his life for a world of sinful mankind, Heb 9: 26-28, John 3:16, 10:11, 15, 17,18, John 15:13, Matt 20:28.
