Christians: What is the mark of the beast?

metis

aged ecumenical anthropologist
My golly - I'm no bigot.
I live in a 3rd world country for heaven's sake's.
It is history.
I showed you the history.
The church history with popes have apologized it happened.
First of all, you keep on switching the subject and I'm not going to let you away with that as that's a form of "bait & switch". The issue at stake is that of genuflecting, which is done with the words "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit", which you say is the "mark of the beast". You own that statement, MJFlores, since that is what you essentially posted, so don't play such disingenuous games here through switching to that which we weren't at all discussing.

If you made a mistake, at least admit it because, as the old saying goes, "A hero dies once but a coward dies a thousand deaths". If you can't, and you continue to switch to something we weren't talking about, then I know which one you actually are. Yesterday, I made a mistake and thanked the person for the correction, and if little old me can do that why can't you? Think: what would Jesus have you do?

Now with regards to Protestantism. I'm no Protestant.
I believe Protestants came from Europe then to the Americas
and it grew there in Americas
Basically Protestantism is Western in origin.
You are of what's called the "Protestant Tradition", as Protestantism and its spin-offs are not geographically linked. JW's fall into the same category, and they also don't like being referred to as "Protestants". And there are literally thousands of Protestant denominations, and that includes those who refer to themselves as being of the CoC.

BTW, I'm a Me'tis, so do you know what that is by chance?

"In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit", which you say is the "mark of the beast".

Its the use of the right hand touching the forehead.
The lips saying mentioning the doxology isn't relevant.

Revelation 13:15-17 New International Version (NIV)
The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

The rise of Protestantism led to major divisions within Western Christianity, which still persist, and wars—for example, the Anglo-Spanish War of 1585–1604 had religious as well as economic causes. ... Protestantism, including Anglicanism, came to North America, Australia-Pacific and some African locales.
Western Christianity - Wikipedia

Protestantism is the second largest form of Christianity with collectively between 800 million and more than 900 million adherents worldwide or nearly 40% of all Christians.[1][2][a] It originated with the 16th century Reformation,https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestantism#cite_note-5 a movement against what its followers perceived to be errors in the Roman Catholic Church.[4] Protestants reject the Roman Catholic doctrine of papal supremacy and sacraments, but disagree among themselves regarding the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.[5] They emphasize the priesthood of all believers, justification by faith alone (sola fide) rather than by good works, and the highest authority of the Bible alone (rather than with sacred tradition) in faith and morals (sola scriptura).[6] The "five solae" summarise basic theological differences in opposition to the Roman Catholic Church.[7]

Protestantism - Wikipedia

On these points, I don't see myself as a Protestant.
Being a non idol worshiper does not make you a Protestant
Rejecting the concept of the Protestant Sola Fide [Faith Alone] bolster that I am not Protestant
Rejecting the concept the 3 in 1 concept of God proves I do not subscribe to the Nicene Christianity which is embraced by both the Roman church and the Protestant churches
The Roman and Protestant churches had their beginnings in Europe then in the Americas, and are of the same mold. The Protestants also have the mark of the Beast [the sign of the Cross].

Lutheranism
Among Lutherans the practice was widely retained. For example, Luther's Small Catechism states that it is expected before the morning and evening prayers. Lutheranism never abandoned the practice of making the sign of the cross in principle and it was commonly retained in worship at least until the early 19th century. During the 19th and early 20th centuries it was largely in disuse until the liturgical renewal movement of the 1950s and 1960s. One exception is The Lutheran Hymnal (1941) of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS), which states that "The sign of the cross may be made at the Trinitarian Invocation and at the words of the Nicene Creed 'and the life of the world to come.'"[21] Since then, the sign of the cross has become fairly commonplace among Lutherans at worship. The sign of the cross is now customary in the Divine Service.[22][23] Rubrics in contemporary Lutheran worship manuals, including Evangelical Lutheran Worship of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and Lutheran Service Book used by LCMS and Lutheran Church–Canada, provide for making the sign of the cross at certain points in the liturgy.[24][25] Most places are the same as the Roman Catholic practice, such as at the trinitarian formula, the benediction, at the consecration of the Eucharist, and following reciting the Nicene or Apostles' Creed.

Devotional use of the sign of the cross among Lutherans also includes after receiving the Host and Chalice in the Eucharist, following Holy Absolution; similarly, they may dip their hands in the baptismal font and make the sign of the cross upon entering the church.

Methodism
The sign of the cross can be found in the Methodist liturgy of both African-American Methodist Episcopal Churches and The United Methodist Church. It is made by some clergy during the Great Thanksgiving, Confession of Sin and Pardon, and benediction.[26][27][28] John Wesley, the principal leader of the early Methodists, prepared a revision of The Book of Common Prayer for Methodist use called The Sunday Service of the Methodists in North America which instructs the presiding minister to make the sign of the cross on the forehead of children just after they have been baptized.[29] Making the sign of the cross at baptism is retained in the current Book of Worship of The United Methodist Church, and is widely practiced (sometimes with oil).[30] Furthermore, on Ash Wednesday the sign of the cross is almost always applied by the elder to the foreheads of the laity.[31] The liturgy for healing and wholeness, which is becoming more commonly practiced, calls for the pastor to make the sign of the cross with oil upon the foreheads of those seeking healing.[32]

In Catholicism, the sign of the cross can be done with either hand and, logically, how in the world can one deduce that genuflecting using the sign of the cross and praying "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" is the "mark of the beast". Who is poisoning you so as to believe in such nonsense? If it's from your church, please leave that and find one that teaches that truth and honesty are important for a Christian to believe and pass on to others. Also, it's clear that you simply cannot bring yourself to admit your errors, and Christian repentance relies on doing that.

BTW, by chance do you live in Belize? Your use of English is excellent, which is why I ask. I was there three years ago studying the Mayan ruins as I had done in Mexico some years before.

Posted that I had the mark of the Beast before
But anymore
When I had the mark of the Beast, I was surprised myself
Of course if you have the mark of the Beast, would you admit it?

Well I learned this from the Church of Christ
for which I am a member
I think it is not poison
If you believe that my belief is in error
then certainly I'm open for discussion

That is why God gave us time
Time to reassess our present faith and what we have been taught and what we believe
Let us set aside the sign of the Cross for a while
In your opinion,
What do you think is the mark of the Beast?

Thank you for the compliment.

I hate to say this but you are doing "Satan's work" as you are perpetuating what rather clearly is a falsehood since both the cross and praying "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" cannot even logically be the "mark of the beast". That is not what Jesus taught us to do as Christians, so since I believe what you are doing is quite unethical and anti-Christian, this is my last post with you on this.

BTW, my father was on Mindanao for one year under General MacArthur at the end of WWII, and he returned to the Philippines back in the 1980's.

Anyhow, take care, but please look for a different church that doesn't teach you those lies.

Revelations 13 16-17

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Notice how Revelations 13: 16 it says "IN their foreheads" not "on their foreheads". Well why is that? If it was a mark drawn or burned in it would be on the skin. But this is IN the forehead. As in inside your head.

So therefore the mark of the beast that you receive inside your head is?

I'll give ya a chance to put it together yourself. And i will answer when I wake up 9 hours from this post.

Bonus points: Assuming you solved the riddle. Tell me what the mark is that is IN their right hand as well.

The mark in the right hand, Represents power to enforce.
The mark in the head ( brain ) Represents
a person's taken on all things of Satan's.

Now here's a question for you, In the book of Revelation 13:18---"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six"

in the book of Revelation will give a person what the number 666 stands for and who?
Can you, yourself answer this riddle?

It's there alot of people may haved read right over it and not realizing what they are reading.

That's to funny, seeing the beast is still future to come into the world.
Where and who are you getting these things from.
Sure not from the book of Revelation as there is no where in the book of Revelation that Caesar name is even made mentioning of.

The beast in the book of Revelation represents Satan and
his number is 666.

Nope 666 has NOTHING to do with Satan.. Its always been Nero or Dominitan.

A known fact of past history is that 2000 years ago, during the time of John the Revelator, Caesar Nero was the reigning emperor of the Roman Empire.

Nero
reigned from 54 - 68 AD. It was also common public knowledge then that Nero's own num- ber was 666, since each letter of the Greek & Hebrew alphabet's had numer- ical equivalents, equalling a person's name.

Christ Jesus given everything in his book of Revelation and said nothing about Nero or Dominitan as you say.
Christ Jesus given in his book of Revelation about the number 666 and it represents Satan.

Maybe you should get a hold of Jesus Christ and let him know how wrong he is about his book of Revelation.

Have you read Revelation yourself, it seems you listen more to what man's teachings will say, than listening to what Christ Jesus teaches in his book of Revelation.
As there is no where in the book of Revelation that Christ Jesus ever said anything about Nero or Dominitan as your trying to say.
Show in what chapter and verses in the book of Revelation where Nero and Dominitan are mention of.

Very good, correct answer.

Well 666 represents the hour he will come. 6th seal, 6th trump, 6th vial. This is when Satan will be released from his bonds and be given Gods sword of fire, to pretend to be Christ on Earth.

He will come and any who accept his mark. Will have money to buy food and thrive successfully. He will sit on the mountain and heal the sick and call down lightning to smite those that rebel against him. This is why he is the anti-christ, instead of Christ.

Without the mark you will not be able to buy food, and you will be hunted down like an animal by his minions. His minions being humans who have accepted the mark (ergo accepted Satan as christ).
