Christians: women speaking in church meetings

You really need to read on, even though the women were to keep silent in the church, she is not less than a man, and in alot of cases she is more, if your married to her then she is #1. imo

The passage has caused quite a bit of debate in the Church. Since there is biblical evidence for women leading some churches, most progressive scholars seem to feel that it's a "Paulism" to which we need pay no attention.

is it right that women speak and preach in church meetings?my point of view is that they shouldnt. read 1 corinthians 14:34

There's an argument that this passage is not authentic, rather it is a gloss/interpolation inserted into the text. The textual evidence is that this passage occurs in different places in different manuscripts. Also, if you lift the passage out of the text, the remaining text coheres nicely. When this text is put back, it creates a nest of puzzles about how it coheres with the rest. There are also other internal cues scholars point to that seem to indicate that this text is probably not original to St. Paul, who in other fully authentic letters commented on and even praised the public preaching and church leadership of women.

The letter is to the church in Corinth. The church is being told what they may be doing wrong, etc. Perhaps there was something going on with the women at the time. Fighting, bickering, etc.

We cannot take one scripture from the bible and make our belief system on it. My grandparents are so UPC that they do not own a TV, my gma cannot cut her hair, must wear longsleeved dresses. My gpa has to wear a dress shirt daily, never any shorts, just slacks. To me, THIS IS BONDAGE!

They took one scripture about your hair being your glory, and modest dress and RAN WITH IT!

My hair is thin, I can no longer wear it long or it won't glorify my self esteem!! I believe God is content with the length of my hair! I wear shorts, because ITS HOT! I believe He is content with that as long as my butt isn't showing!

Women Not Speaking in Church?????
Judges 4:1, Deborah was a prophetess and a judge - the only one. She was the leader for her area. She led a military battle, and won. When her home is described, it states she lived by the "Palm of Deborah" not of Deborah and her husband. The reason is, he was not an important figure. I believe God can give a message to male and female, and the male and female can do it well or mess it up equally!

Gosh, why does having a penis make a person so powerful! People just need to learn not to take the bible so literaly!

To my knowledge Paul wrote that verse to Corinthians because there was female false prophets seducing the men of that church, but I could be wrong.

Though Women should be able to speak, they can have just amount of anointing from God just as Men. Anywho say otherwise is just being sexist.

whoever started this post I don't believe but I know that God did not have intentions for women to be the head over men. Is a woman allowed to speak in church, sure. They can stand up clap, lead a song, and talk but as far as a woman pastoring a church that is not Gods will. There is no instance in the bible where a woman led a church. I notice someone wrote about deborah but deborah was not a pastor just a judge. No different from a supreme ct judge. Paul even tells timothy in 1 tim 2:12 that a woman should not teach or excercise authority over a man. Many women are against submitting because they have succumb to the society that they live in. When this is said, it is not to belittle the woman or to say she is incapable of pastoring because I know women who could be great pastors but because they have submitted themselves to God's word and not their pride they can come to service and not feel belittle because of what the bible has said. So again, to the one who started this post you are correct inspite of what everyone is saying based on their feelings. God's word has plainly stated how it should be.

BZZZZZZT!!! I'm so sorry. That's an incorrect answer. But we have some lovely parting gifts for you, including a lifetime supply of Christian Caulk to fill in those gaps in your religious history. You'll also leave us with the home version of our game, "Religious Right is Wrong!"

Now, turn around, look at the camera, and tell all the folks out there: "I am not smarter than a 5th grader!"
