Givin the recent threads regarding John Chau's willful disregard for laws that had protected the safety and health concerns of the Setinelese nation and its people for a considerable time.

This is what has been going on since his death.

First, a look at John's stupidity and his spirit of disregard in spite of warnings and concerns that I'm reasonably sure were given to him prior to all this, and the consequences as what has come about from all this so far....

I think it's time to send a message and reminder to Christians and any other religion that follows a similar path.

In light of recent events surrounding Chau's actions, basically the message needs to be reaffirmed to (hopefully) get it through a number of Christians heads that....

* You are not the saviors of the world.

*You are not the salt of the earth.

*You are not a beacon of light into the darkness.

I don't know what it takes to drive the message home. Maybe it will take the modern age deaths of an entire group of an ancient indigenous people spanning tens of thousands of years for starters who simply want to be left alone. God forbid. Right?

Sorry, but whenever and article begins with, "A US fundamentalist Christian group..." nothing that follows really surprises me. And I think it would take a fundie to venture illegally onto a remote tribal island and proselytize Christianity to the natives.

I tend to think the behavior of the Sentinelese people has been refined over tens of thousands of years given amount of times they and their ancestors had inhabited the land.

Another words , they most likely, or with a reasonable degree of certainty, were approached in the far past by outsiders and maybe a number of those encounters weren't so pleasant... People learn from experience and pass it down to their children.

To put it in some perspective I would like to think if indigenous people here in the United States could go back in time retaining the knowledge that they have now, would they have met the first colonists with open arms and friendship? Or would they have rained down arrows in a hail of death to keep them permanently away for the health and safety of their Own?

I think givin a lot of people are privy to past histories that have happened already to indigenous peoples that the protections afforded to the Sentinelese are unduly justified as well as the consequences involved with breaking their own ancient customs and ways.

Looking at the photos of the Sentinelese and seeing how healthy, happy, and clearly cultured they are as a people among each other. I would hardly use the words "paranoid savages" to describe them.

For me, I would prefer to use the terms 'Street Smart' in describing their present disposition. I think they had justifiable and good reason to respond the way they do given the sheer amount of time they've been able to exist and stay cohesive so far.

Of course when you're religiously blind and ignorant, it's not likely you will take those things into consideration.

I think it's highly unlikely. I doubt if the Europeans even knew how smallpox spread.

They didn't know it spread by viral transmission but they knew about infection. Even as far back as the Tudor period they had extensive policy on burning the bedding and clothes of the plagued. And there is documented evidence of intentionally attempting to infect enemy populations, from dipping piercing weapons into infected material to flinging infected material over walls.

There is little doubt that the British fully intended to infect the native Americans as discussed by the British documents during the Pontiac Rebellion. The only thing not known is the effectiveness thereof.

There has also been separate questions of intentional infections of smallpox in natives in Australia as well.

Well, I won't comment on that, but I will say that a primitive, backwards, and barbaric tribe of people who isolate themselves from the civilized world and attack anyone who enters their area will most likely not be favored by natural selection for long.

Obviously it is, but regardless if you cant comprehend why the island is off limits by law is irelevant isnt it?
