Nope, no tree here at Chez Ymir (Well, none in the house. Hundreds outside though.)
overspending, mostly on children’s toys and unnecessary things
Nope, I made all the gifts I gave this year.
overspending on Christmas decorations
Nope. Didn't put up a single one.
overeating, over drinking
I will probably eat too much, but not likely by American standards, LOL. No booze is on the premises or pot for that matter. Life is dull, but at least I can remember it all.
overcrowded shopping malls followed with extensive anxiety attacks and exhaustion
Didn't get involved in the consumerist orgy, nope.
maximum point of carbon emission
I did make a batch of Nuclear Chili 3 days ago, so that did up our carbon footprint a tad, but the beauty of living in paradise is that you don't have to go anywhere! Win, win.
post-holiday recovery
I think I'll be just fine. I hope you are too, Mr. Grinch, wherever you are.

This is due to people allowing a religion holiday become absorbed by consumerism so that a few can benefit from the profits. The problem increases as these same people are drawn in by false sales so they will spend more money thus continuing the system of consumerism.

That's why we celebrate Saturnalia / Sol Invictus . . . so that we can feast and splurge without guilt and shame!

I visited family for Christmas. We all got each other a couple of presents. We had some good food and pleasant conversation over a glass of wine. All in all, I'd call it a good day.

Christmas doesn't have to be a feeding frenzy. People just tend to make it more stressful than it needs to be.

A little overboard on the negative, And another person can make a list to make it sound merry and cheery! Combine both lists to get a more real picture.

I agree with you about the excessive gift giving, with all the inscrutable social conventions.
Bah!
Humbug!
And have a happy Festivus!

Well speak for yourself. We don't cut down our Christmas trees in Australia. In fact the concept is quite foreign to us.

overspending, mostly on children’s toys and unnecessary things

Ever hear of a budget? Geez.

overspending on Christmas decorations

Meh, we only put up a wreath and some tinsel. Honestly I think we spend more on decorations for every single other holiday we celebrate. Religious or otherwise. Like you think Xmas is extravagant? Pah! You ain't seen extravagant until you've seen an Asian holiday. Now those ******** know how to spend exorbitant amounts of money on decorations. :p

overeating, over drinking

To be fair, anyone from a background including but not limited to Italian, Greek, Indian, Philippine, Lebanese etc could say the same on any random day they happen to catch a mum at home. No seriously. If you befriend a kindly mum in any one of those cultures, you're bound to have meals for weeks on end whenever you visit them. It's almost like their life goal is just to feed people. Lol!

And mate, I work in Retail so I had to work during Christmas trading. Those annoying autotuned Carols on repeat constantly are enough to drive even the saintliest of monks to develop a thirst! ;)

Or you could just be organized and get your shopping done early. I know life is busy as f, but it can be done. Many people have achieved this.

Lol I went to two family shin digs yesterday. Had some Bundy (rum) and cokes, some Mojitos, some cocktails, a bottle of wine (it was weak before you brand me an alco) and some traditional Christmas Brandy. I still managed my all day shift today without hassle. Come on Gramps, it's not that bad surely. ;)

Quite right, Christmas should be cancelled! Would you like to join me for some seasonal bah-humbuggery? :p

Santa is really Satan, that's why Christmas is so wrong. :p

Actually, Stanta could be strongly connected to one poisonous mushroom called Anamita Muscaria (red cup, white spots and stand). It has hallucinogenic effects and long time ago, people from the Norther hemisphere used it during the time of long arctic winters. If taken properly people feel nice, warm, have a flying sensation.
