Find me an employer who is willing to sponsor me for a greencard, and who can prove that there is nobody within the US who could do my job. Or, find a way to either legalize gay marriage on a federal level (so it would then be recognised for immigration purposes, and Maize could sponsor me), or get them to dig out the Permanent Partners Immigration Act, and push it through (which would mean Maize could sponsor me, without marriage). In short: a miracle. Cost of plane fare is roughly $3000 (return). I can stay for 90 days without a visa, 90 days with a tourist visa, and *possibly* get that extended for longer, if I can prove I have the funds to pay for my stay without working (which I can't). Work visas are trickier to get, as I am unskilled and unqualified to do anything, so I am in the bottom batch of people considered for work visas. They can take years to get, I'm told. In short: not long enough.

Actually, anyone who is genuinely interested in helping, could go here and contact their representative, urging them to sponsor the Permanent Partners Immigration Act. :) Even those against gay marriage should be able to do that in good conscience. Although, with the Republican control of the House and Senate even stronger since the Nov. election, I don't see it happening any time soon...

Oh, and you could all keep your fingers crossed that I 'win' a greencard in the Diversity Visa Lottery. I put in my entry the other day...but keep 'em crossed till May-July, cause it's a horrible long wait to find out if I get one or not.
Can Maize hire you for anything?

Right. I am going to help this situation. I owe it to maize and bastet. If I had the money I would pay for your ticket over to see her.

Since I have become a religion geek, I am asking for an assortment of books. The Koran. The Social Contract. Philosophy books as well as some Budhist meditation books.

That would require money, which we don't have. Plus they have special documents that have to be filled out (can't remember the department of the top of my head), stating my qualifications, why nobody else within the country could do the specific job (I had been thinking about being a nanny for the kids, but they got tougher on that so it's not that easy anymore), how much Maize will pay me, benefits, etc...and they keep checking up on it all to make sure it's all kosher.

Thanks Soul, you're a sweetie. I could fly over there tomorrow, if I wanted to max out my credit card. But since I'm trying to get myself out of debt and save some serious money, it would be kinda redundant...as much as I want to just jump on a plane, it's not practical.

Was that an offer, honey? :flirt: I actually did have one guy offer, but I'm not that comfortable with the idea...I'm not that good a liar lol. Besides, we'd have to be married (and co-habiting), for a couple years before we'd be able to divorce, cause it can take quite some time to process it all. I dunno, it just seems kinda...icky.

Does Canada cut you any slack? Can Bastet get to Toronto, Canada with less hassle than the U.S.
Their work visa restrictions are similar to the US. I started looking into that a little while ago, but got side-tracked with my surgery and everything. I need to dig deeper before I know for sure...it just gets so depressing reading it all and finding out how many restrictions there really are. Australia recognises same-sex partners for immigration purposes, but the catch is you have to prove that you have been living financially co-dependently for two years. How are we supposed to do that, when we can't get ourselves in the same country for that long to begin with? :banghead3 It's depressing.

I'd like a new, slightly nicer bodice for Faire. That is, of course, assuming I even GET into Faire this year (they haven't called me back yet... so I just don't know). My character this year is more middle class, and my old character was a thief... so my old ripped, ugly bodice is not really appropriate for this character. However, if I don't get one, I'll just make my character be a thief again. :)

I need to put my glasses on...I read that as 'body', not 'bodice'...I was wondering what was wrong with your old body. :p
