City official fired for sex change plans

Amazing how they think that suddenly having more estrogen than testosterone in her system will make her unfit to be a city official.

All the "he, he, he" in that article makes me twitch.

"his secret life"??? heavens, he's transgendered and seeking SRS! he hasn't been killing people and stockpiling them in a cellar!

i feel badly for Stanton, as well. this is a cruel and reactionary way to respond to a person's coming out and does no honor to their personal struggle. what Stanton has done is brave and dignified. what his peers have none is neither. prayers for Steve, for his future, and a safe and caring road to becoming who he wishes to be. (i'd like to apologize about my pronoun use here, i'm not sure which one to use) how would his sexual reasignment surgery in any way impede his ability to work and serve his community? come on!

That is incredibly sad. I feel badly for him, and I hope he can find a job that accepts him for who he is.

I read this statement:

"I do not feel he has the integrity, nor the trust, nor the respect, nor the confidence to continue as the city manager of the city of Largo," said Black, who introduced a resolution to fire Stanton on Monday.

I don't know who Black is but I'd like to punch him/her in the mouth.

yes, because someone's comittment to their duties and roles completely changed if they come out as LGBT. does anybody know if he will accept being fired? or take it to court?

I don't think the government has anti-discrimination laws against something like this......although I guess it could be argued as gender discrimination..

I wonder if they realize that making a public spectacle over this merely increases their chances of having to take orders from her one day? Seriously, this stuff is political gold.

Or at least it should be. Not only should all these whining politicians be replaced, but the city should rally around him, or bah, her. ;p

"twitch" - it makes me feel sick............. would it hurt so much to admit the reality of her being a she ? Does it really make sense to sack a person whom (for all we know) has done a good job all these years ?........Just a thought, aren't his employers guilty of being sexist ?

His? :p

Yes, it sounds like sexism to me. I'm just not sure how this can go on in government, which is supposed to have the highest standards of gender equality.

There's only so many times one can feel sick in one day without feeling really horrible because of it. My limit is usually reached very early each day.

What's amazing is that she has held the job for 14 years, and has always been popular and respected. How she suddenly becomes unfit for the job by going public with something that has always been true is a mystery to me.

It's a shame she doesn't have more vocal support within the city, though I noticed that the mayor supports her.

Most of this has been lead by a local Baptist pastor and WHAT a surprise that is.

Here is an update
Sorry for what I had here before. I just don't understand where the guy's coming from, and it's not helpful to say scornful things when the real problem is probably a lack of understanding.

It's sad. It doesn't surprise me but it does make me sad.

To think that an official who by all appearances does his job well for 14 years is suddenly attacked for no good reason while human scum such as Marion Barry, William Jefferson, Jesse Helms, etc. are still supported by the people is outright frightening at the level of education in our society.
