Most nationalism, particularly of the variety being discussed, is about as meaningful and harmless as being a fan of a sport's team. People need a variety of self-identification labels to define themselves, and "civic nationalism" is just another one of those tags.

So, other posters. Any thoughts on which of the two nationalist styles is preferable?
If we must have nationalism, we should probably be sober and fully embrace its nature as a political and abstract construct.
