It is a waste of energy creating a reservoir and pumping water just to generate power at night. We can use the existing dams without modification to cover the shortage. Wind is not reliable to power a whole grid during night consumption.
The cost v benefit must be analyzed for each project.
I expect that it would work in some places, but not others.
Let's not forget small scale solutions....

I do, but I use solar powered ones. Intermittent charging
works well with lead acid batteries.
- Switch to LED lights...if you're so irresponsible that you haven't already.
- Some day I expect small scale co-generation to be practical.
Heat a building with an engine which runs a generator.
Electricity generated by this is 100% efficient (because the heat is used).
Or have the engine run a heat pump for well over 100% efficient heat.
