Climate Change, school kids vs. Sen. Feinstein

Well I'd guess that we'll end up with hybrid systems, not black and white. As for batteries, I'd say we have to diversify there as well. One example is to pump water uphill when the sun is shining, and then release that water back through dams when energy is needed (say, at night).

Nuclear power is the best option in this case not wasting energy for pumps and dams.

If powered by excess energy from wind or solar, then it's not wasted.

It is a waste of energy creating a reservoir and pumping water just to generate power at night. We can use the existing dams without modification to cover the shortage. Wind is not reliable to power a whole grid during night consumption.

The cost v benefit must be analyzed for each project.
I expect that it would work in some places, but not others.

Let's not forget small scale solutions....
- Do you use a battery maintainer on seldom used vehicles?
I do, but I use solar powered ones. Intermittent charging
works well with lead acid batteries.
- Switch to LED lights...if you're so irresponsible that you haven't already.
- Some day I expect small scale co-generation to be practical.
Heat a building with an engine which runs a generator.
Electricity generated by this is 100% efficient (because the heat is used).
Or have the engine run a heat pump for well over 100% efficient heat.
