Water corrkodes metal (except for unobtanium), freezes, & can ruin a suede jacket.
So I invented a car that burns air. Air is cheap, relatively pollution free, & is compatible with
all clothing. (It just takes a little gasoline, naptha or diesel fuel to make the air burn.)
But when I approached the auto companies & Big Oil about my invention, they threatened
me with an atomic wedgie and a purple nurple!

You can increase fuel efficiency sometimes by adding water to the fuel mixture. That's probably what happened.

Let's look at some basics......
- IC engine power derives from expanding gases of combustion.
- Water doesn't burn. (It's already a product of complete combustion).
- Adding water adds low temperature mass.
-,This extra mass absorbs heat, thereby reducing combustion temperature.
(Running rich does this too because the excess gasoline doesn't burn.)
- Reducing the temperature reduces the gas pressure, which reduces the potential to do work.

I did all that without using any numbers, mentioning stoichiometry, the
Carnot cycle, or penises....oh, wait....this isn't about gun control.
