College Student Is Removed From Flight After Speaking Arabic on Plane!

"A college student who came to the United States as an Iraqi refugee was removed from a Southwest Airlines flight in California earlier this month after another passenger became alarmed when she heard him speaking Arabic."

My comment:
Too bad when Arabs get excited, they forget all languages they learned :p

*prepares to remove Smart Guy from RF if he starts speaking Arabic and his squiggly letters endanger us all* :unamused:

Like the last story it sounds like if the person would have just been polite and co-operative as possible (like I always am with police and security people) he would not have been removed from the plane. He started challenging the questioning person with Islamophobia issues (per the article). Some people have issues with authority. If you feel you have a legitimate issue take it up to higher level people not people just doing their jobs. If a passenger complains they are probably required to investigate.

Meh, hearing Arabic being spoken wouldn't bother me... unless it was shouting "Allahu akbar!" That might get me a tad nervous.

I think that is a great point, George. Heaven forbid they recognize that people are a tad jumpy around Muslims these days - and for good reason. Wouldn't it be better to be super-polite and super-accommodating in order to allay the fears? Playing the Islamophobia card out of the starting gate in victimized outrage isn't especially smart. I'll say that.

Hello there :)

Could you please quote that from the article for the reference to the readers?

I agree with where you're coming from, by the way. One should listen to the authorities.

Some guys seem to shout into their phones. A guy did this next to me today and I guess it was in Arabic, but I wasn't alarmed one bit.

Could be a bit more to the story.

Apparently the person who reported him also spoke Arabic and reported him for what he was talking about, not the language he was using.

Hmm... something seems fishy. So suddenly everyone spoke Arabic, the Iraqi passenger, the employee who escorted him out and later the passenger who reported it. The same article also does not mention what those threatening words were, but instead it mentioned the word "Insha-Allah" which mean "God willing". Dunno, I have a feeling the informer said she spoke Arabic because she knew a couple of words, or maybe the Airlines made that up to cover up for their offense? The Iraqi guy maybe made things up too. I guess it is up to the readers to choose what they want to believe in it.

The threatening word was hearing the word "Allah":)

... unless it was shouting "Allahu akbar!"

Even that shouldn't do it... Arab Christians call God Allah. They would also say "Allahu akbar" and "inshallah". I'm sure there's an Arab Christian version of Tim Tebow somewhere. :D

Mr. Makhzoomi said he was afraid, and that the employee spoke to him “like I was an animal.”

“I said to him, ‘This is what Islamophobia got this country into,’ and that made him so angry. That is when he told me I could not go back on the plane.”

Actually, this thread title and media title should not be: College Student Is Removed From Flight After Speaking Arabic on Plane!

A more accurate title is: College Student Not Allowed on Plane After Arguing With Security Personnel!

These type of articles are what I call trying to drum up Islamophobia-phobia!

The questioning person called in was an Arabic speaker and quite possibly a Muslim himself (although the article doesn't mention if he was Muslim or not and not that it should matter anyway).

the word "Islam" means "submission" to God
