Probably. The problem is that there's competing narratives over the Civil War and academics are of different opinions. I have to read more about it.
so, you are saying that there is a conspiracy to make history say that slavery was a major cause of the Civil War? so what was it if it wasn't the destruction of their economy, built on the backs of slave labor? I mean this wasn't that long ago, and we have the 13th amendment to prove that it was a major issue. not to mention a plethora of Civil War letters from soldiers especially black soldiers that were literally fighting for their freedom. I understand that you feel like everyone thinks that slavery is the only issue, but that is not what I'm trying to say. my point is that slavery is what a lot of African Americans equate with the Civil War, so I find it in bad taste to use a symbol that might remind them of that. I don't think that it should be illegal, but making it part of a license plate is this state ordered task. and I think that might deserve special attention.

Huh? I didn't say anything about a conspiracy, just that there's different views and I need to read more about it.

I think we need to admit that symbolism does count for something. For example, is someone pisses on the American flag, does that mean something? How about a copy of one's scriptures? The Confederate flag means more than just a former representation of the South. Legally, it's allowed, but then negative reaction to that can be expected.

Personally, anyone whom I wouldn't like basically being able to narrow this down into a single symbol, and then place it somewhere really easy to see, would only be doing me a favor.
