Confession

I just got confession today. I feel great now and I am writing to remind and encourage all of you to do the same! This is a perfect time of year for reconcilliation.

I'm sad that I missed my favorite reconciliation service. We do a big one with all the nearby priests, and everybody gets together. It's great - I was too sick to go :(

New to Catholic Church from Lutheranism, I can't get used to reconcilliation. Confession to a priest I know just won't work in a small rural community.

Remember that they're bound to silence. Also remember that he has probably heard much worse, or if not, similar things!

I think the only way it would work, for me, would be to go to another parish far away and confess there.

I thought my sins were embarrassing too, but it felt good to get them out. I didn't feel embarrassed while I was actually in the confessional, or afterward. The priest helped by being understanding and non-judgemental. I'm sure your priest will too.

Another thing is: take the number of confessions your priest does during Holy Week. (probably a little less than your parish count, because some nonparishioners will come, and some members won't) Now add it to however many he does in a year (in a small rural, traditional town, probably about five a week.) Now multiply that by however many years he's been in the priesthood (deacons can hear confession too, right? So if that applies, add that) Now you've got approximately how many confessions he's heard. Now think that there's probably about an average of three major sins per person that are confessed. So multiply your number of confessions by three.

That a LOT of sins! Unless your priest has an amazingly good memory, he probably can't match a face to a sin after one Holy Week, much less many! And with that number of sins, it's pretty crazy to think that no one out there has a sin similar to yours.

And doesn't it feel so much better to have them out in the open? To admit to someone else that, yes, you're sinful and yes, God loves you anyway? To me, it does :)

PS - I agree with economist. If he's a priest, he tries to be like Christ. Christ was definitely understanding and nonjudgemental!

Now off to confession with you! :D

My sins are to embarassing.
The priests don't care what your sins are, they are jsut glad that you're telling your sins. They know that when you do that, you're okay, remember, priests probably feel embarassed about their sins as well. Don't worry about it. Besides, the more you go, the easier it gets. i go every week just because i like to. I also go because i am friends with my priest, and that makes saying them all the easier.:woohoo:

Why would anyone want to go to confession?? Just wondering. What do you feel it accomplishes? What do you feel afterwards. I just can't imagine wanting to go, not trying to be rude but just curious!!!
