Congrats to Autodidact and her daughter!

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
If this has been addressed already in any other OPs, I apologize for the repeat.

But I couldn't help but notice Autodidact's recent signature line:

Proud mother of the 11-year old girls Colorado recreational gymnastics STATE vault champion.

Auto - PLEASE TELL US MORE! And congratulations to your daughter - what an amazing accomplishment!

Well thanks for noticing. Well, D. is my youngest, the one I adopted from social services at age 3. She has a lot of issues, for example school is really hard for her, but (in addition to being almost freakishly pretty) she is athletically gifted.

She's been doing gym. for around 5 years with a one year break. She's on an excellent local recreational/competitive team, which means among other things occasionally driving 100 miles each way for a meet.

It's the first thing she has really dedicated herself to, consistently works hard, sets goals, and all that good stuff you want to see.

She had a good season, ending up qualifying for all-round at the state meet. She did not do very well there, except for vault, her best event. She is very strong and light, so really has an advantage there.

We knew she had done well, but didn't realize she took first place till they announced it.

I am proud of her accomplishments, but more proud that she has worked hard and maintained her commitment to her sport.

Thanks for sharing your story, Auto - your daughter is amazing, but you certainly deserve lots of credit for being such a fine mother to her.

I hoped you didn't mind me starting the thread - when I read your signature line, I thought to myself, "Wow - now THAT is really big news. And she must not mind people knowing it, so...here goes!"

Great story. Kiss her beautiful face for me and tell her some weird lady you've never met sent her a kiss.
