If anyone does two terms as an MEP, you are set up for life and you never need to work again.
Pre-EU I used to visit Eire at least once a year to go fishing. Ireland was lovely but still in the 19th Century, it was like a time-warp. Donkeys were still a common mode of transport, I'm talking the 1970s and 80's here.Another expert speaks and tells the truth.

Do you mean like Nigel Farage?

Since joining the EU the economy has transformed and they have become a net contributor (I've not checked that I am taking on trust what the Irexiters say). So now they want to leave. It makes Brexit look sensible.
Oh, don't get me wrong, it was lovely for a visitor but the locals were impoverished and poor. Running water and mains electric were optional. It sounds like they had a much better quality of life pre-EU.

We used to catch bream - they are bony and horrible to eat - but often the locals would come out to us and ask up for some of our fish for their supper. We gladly obliged.
I assume you are joking but if not you are proving what I thought...Brexit is all about taking us back to the 19th Century, Empire, no Votes for Women, no safety regulations, steam trains, damp hovels to live in, high childhood mortality, no NHS, etc., etc.,Do we know if they are happier and more content now than they were back then?

You do have a warped mind, they welcomed us with open arms. We brought money into their region. We drank in their pubs, ate in their cafes bought petrol and food. All these locals were suffering all that while you took advantage of them and enjoyed your fishing.
By a very innovative understanding of "benefit"...He has never denied it, but he has used it to benefit the people of the UK.

Many of the poorest areas also had the best fishing.
If that is taking advantage of them you'd better ask the Irish Tourist Board why they promoted it and sent us brochures and put on road shows.

So 'seems' now takes precedent over experience - a bit like Gove's famous, "We're all tired of experts"It seems it was not as bad you made it out to be here then.

You, trying to downplay the EU's influence on the great improvement in Eire's economics and prosperity. What are you on about?
When you are dealing with a corrupt system a smart politician like Nigel will use it to benefit his country.
The UK is desperately in need of as many smart politicians as it can muster at this particular point in time instead of all those sheep in politicians clothing.
Farage only cares about one thing, himself. When you are dealing with a corrupt system a smart politician like Nigel will use it to benefit his country.
Yes, but the likes of Adolf von Batten and Stephen Yaxley Lennon are not what we are looking for.The UK is desperately in need of as many smart politicians as it can muster at this particular point in time instead of all those sheep in politicians clothing.

Ah, that's now a measure of EU success...ok, now all I can find is 2001 to 2016 and they are fairly steady.I would like to know what the current suicide rate is compared to what it was in the 1970s and 80's and has there been an increase in the use of anti-depressants.
