Conor Lamb wins special election in PA district that Trump won by a sweeping majority

Source: House Republicans try to calm GOP fears after apparent upset in Pennsylvania's Trump country

Paul Ryan attempted to blow off the Democratic victory as the result of Lamb running on a conservative platform.

This is hardly the case, as Lamb is not any less liberal than Tim Kaine for example. Lamb is pro-choice, supports some gun reform, and is pretty much what you'd expect from a moderate Democrat.

The fact is, this victory in PA's Trump country does not bode well for the GOP in November. Not long ago Roy Moore lost to Democrat Doug Jones in the deep red southern state of Alabama, which is usually a guaranteed Republican win on anything.

Experts are predicting this all spells sweeping victory for Democrats this year.

There happens to be a significant portion of the American population that wants more 'tax, regulate, spend' as I suspect you mean that phrase. That segment of voters does not feel Democrats go far enough. They want a Socialist party in the United States.

That's probably a good chunk of millennials. The segment not voting more often than not.

Actually I don't think I have to guess why Lamb won. I think I can pretty certainly say the Trump experiment is proving a failure for the GOP. You guys better hope he doesn't drag you down with him. You think the people want him, but you're only basing that on a particular voting segment in your party. The rest of us, conservatives included- see Trump as uniquely unfit to be where he is. Supporting him reflects badly on Republicans.

Time will tell if my guesses bear out.

I'm holding out on optimism because Dems are going to have to actually turn out for the regular "off season" vote and not just the "special" elections. This kind of momentum going into 2020 would be great, when it's more likely the Dem voters will show up.

The right does borrow and spend, borrow some more and spend some more. Deficits go down during Democratic administrations.

If your concern is the debt and a strong economy, history shows democratic administrations do a better job. But they'll claim that's fake news.

Another fine example is just looking at republican run states. Usually poor, low education, failing infrastructure, etc.

Which is really quite funny because their advertisements had him as a "Pelosi liberal".

It's typical for the Republicans to do this bait & switch tactic, whereas when the Dems lose they typically blame themselves.

You forgot about a poor population that can hardly afford to sustain itself after having been financially raped by the Democrats to build up their little Utopia so they can brag on how great they are. Like two precious Blue States.....
