The Reverend Bob
Fart Machine and Beastmaster
The very fact that you can see this post and agree or disagree proves it. This is the starting point for non realism. Do any of you want to dispute the point that consciousness is relative?

Exactly!Relative to what?
You.Exactly!
Reverend Bob, inquiring minds want to know. Relative to what?

.
Okay, . . . . . . . . then let me paraphrase you a bit from your OP:You.

Consciousness is a can of worms.
FWIW, in Buddhism, there are 6 base-sense (pattern recognition) consciousnesses: (the sensory consciousnesses being 6 of eight consciousnesses)Is consciousness like a 6th sense?
FWIW, in Buddhism, there are 6 base-sense (pattern recognition) consciousnesses: (the sensory consciousnesses being 6 of eight consciousnesses)
- eye consciousness/vision sensing
- hear consciousness/auditory sensing
- body consciousness/tactile sensing
- nose consciousness/olfactory sensing
- tongue consciousness/tasting
- conceptual consciousness/the sensing of ideas and abstracts
Do the worms have consciousness to know they are in a can?
Well, the post wasn't addressed to me, so I didn't want to put words in the OP's mouth, but I did want to bring up the sensing of ideas/conceptual consciousness as one type of sense-base media. Why do you feel you have to cut my post? If you don't want to answer the other, that's fine but why cut my post?
You.

You.
Does consciousness come in different levels?
Do other species have consciousness but not on the same level as humans or is it limited to humans?
If say for example a bacteria will retreat from high heat, does it have consciousness?
Is consciousness like a 6th sense?
Is consciousness an inherited trait or an always exiting sense?

I once studied consciousness. There are like 20 types. So, one needs to state which type. Are we awake or asleep? Is life a dream? Are we sane or insane, lying in a bed somewhere unconscious, in touch with the supernatural or scientifically overly aware of things coming into our subconscious minds or of subliminal messages, etc.? It can get really deep.
