Exactly so! The best advice, in my opinion, is to ignore the extremes on either side, and listen carefully to what the mainstream of both parties are talking about. You'll find, often enough, that they're not really all that far apart. In an age before social media allowed us to form "electronic gangs," it was even possible to cobble together bipartisan bills that became, for the most part, pretty good law.The reality seems to be that the loudest and most extreme voices get heard but they actually make up the minority on both sides of the aisle. The majority on both sides seem to agree on quite a bit but the D & R thing tends to get in the way sometimes.
How do these two differ?
Are there any liberal or even moderate Republicans? Not that I can see. The right has gone full bore extreme right with attacks that anyone not on the extreme is a RINO and is to be primaried.
The left is still fighting that battle.
"Conservative Democrat" is redundant. "Liberal Republican" is either an oxymoron or describes a very confused person. How do these two differ?

You don't believe that the right has attacked and primaried people for being RINOs? Wow.You have it backwards unfortunately.
The right already disavowed and disowned its extremist.
Though you are correct the left is still fighting the battle within itself between the moderates and the extremist.
Honestly I kind of hope both parties Fall Into Obscurity like the Federalist and Whig parties of days old, and redefine what it actually means to live in a free country as a free people. The reality seems to be that the loudest and most extreme voices get heard but they actually make up the minority on both sides of the aisle. The loonies as in the moderate RINOs, the neo-Nazis and the alt-right types?"Has attacked"... past tense
Yes
Just as I said, the right has already had this battle and its over with and the loonies are gone for the most part.
The loonies are in charge of the asylum on the left atm.
The loonies as in the moderate RINOs, the neo-Nazis and the alt-right types?
Interesting. I take an opposite conclusion from things like that. From where I sit, it's the other way around.
Nobody has been blocked from knitting sites or other places for being too LIBERAL, after all.
I would love to see a Republican who is strongly pro-life, strongly against gay marriage, and strongly for saving the planet from Global warming. I wish Carlos Curbelo had been elected. Are there any liberal or even moderate Republicans? Not that I can see. The problem with that, of course, is that anyone with enough of a social conscience to take action on climate change is unlikely to be anti-choice, anti-same-sex marriage, or Republican.I would love to see a Republican who is strongly pro-life, strongly against gay marriage, and strongly for saving the planet from Global warming. I know, that's why Carlos Curbelo was unique. He was at least a foot in the door. The problem with that, of course, is that anyone with enough of a social conscience to take action on climate change is unlikely to be anti-choice, anti-same-sex marriage, or Republican.
2020 primaries haven't happened yet, so that remains to be seen.Alt-right and all those loons have been disavowed, disowned, and sent on their way.

He was mentioned in this article Climate Change: Conservatives Should Take a Sensible Approach | National Review which listed some other people as well.I know, that's why Carlos Curbelo was unique. He was at least a foot in the door.
