Conservatives Making Their Own Bible

Apparently not satisfied with how "liberal" Jesus is being portrayed in modern Bible translations, Conservatives have taken upon themselves to make their own version of the Bible:

The Gospel of Luke records that, as he was dying on the cross, Jesus showed his boundless mercy by praying for his killers this way: "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
Not so fast, say contributors to the Conservative Bible Project.
The project, an online effort to create a Bible suitable for contemporary conservative sensibilities, claims Jesus' quote is a disputed addition abetted by liberal biblical scholars, even if it appears in some form in almost every translation of the Bible.

Conservative Bible Project aims to rewrite scripture to counter perceived liberal bias

Doesn't the Bible comdemn altering it words in Revalations (if I remember correctly)? I'm curious as to what people -- Biblical literalists in particular -- think of this.

It does. It gives a rather strong, urgent, and harsh warnings towards those that would.

No, the Book of Revelation condemns altering the words in the Book of Revelation. The Bible didn't exist when Revelation was written.

I started another thread about this somewhere. It just goes to show that the whackjob movement knows no limits. In a way, though, it's kind of a logical progression from the NIV, which was dishonestly made to conform to Evangelical beliefs.

Conservatives always come up with their own facts anyway -- facts independent of scholarship, science, and sometimes common sense -- so why shouldn't they invent their own bible?

Actually not all conservatives agree with this. In Eze. 33:11 God tells us he does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked but that people turn from their evil ways. Considering the fact the reason he was on the cross was for the very people that put him there.

in the UK the Church of England used to be called the Conservative party at Prayer.
This has not been true since the 1970's
Since those times mosts priests have favored a straight forward reading and understanding of Jesus teachings, and their politics has moved to a more liberal or socialist ethic. In this they are now more in line with the traditional non-conformist, methodist political stance.

However there has never been any attempt to re-write or re-interpret the Bible to prove their case.

Social justice seem to be built into the the very heart of Jesus teachings.

The Conservative Bible Project seeks to silence the Bible's prophetic voice not only in the words of the Hebrew Prophets but also the teachings of Jesus. This project also limits the ways in which God speaks to us, and also transforms Scripture into a weapon and a idol.

No, the Book of Revelation condemns altering the words in the Book of Revelation. The Bible didn't exist when Revelation was written.

That's one view. The other view is that the the term "this book" is referring to the entire Bible, rather than just Revelations, and this is a view that many mainstream Christian churches adhere to.
