As much as I've enjoyed being here at RF, there's a couple of trends that I'm simply not willing to endure much longer, plus I have seen it destroy two other religious websites for much the same reason.

One is those who just simply are so very hostile and/or so nit-picky that it seems RF has become a "battlefield", and I'm sure this is keeping some people from posting here. Yes, we all "lose it" at times, including yours truly, and I've had to issue a fair number of apologies over the years myself.

Second problem is religious bigotry, and even though I'm not tied to any religion, the number of anti-Catholic threads here is very disturbing to me. It's one thing to disagree with Catholic concepts, but it's another when I see constant bashing of the entire church that goes on and on and...

These two problems dismay me to the point whereas tomorrow I'll be looking for a different religious website. Seriously, I don't want to leave here because there are some people that I deeply admire and I enjoy their posts, but it seems that the number of them is getting fewer and fewer versus those with axes to grind while using a pit-bull approach.

I'm just one person here, and I know I'm expendable, but I really hope that some people here decide to "cool it" and not be so aggressive. I don't want to leave, but I'm not going to stay if I feel as uncomfortable as I do now.

No the world needs good catholics. Yes RF needs sane catholics. Yes RF IS NUTS. No Don't step into the monte python skit see it don't be it.
I just read a Catholic bashing post. It was catholics must report pedophilias who confess in confessional. I said very clearly I empathise with the problem but, it's an all or nothing question for the church. I then framed it we have gods law Kings law. And said what if the king declares kill all Muslims, and someone confesses I am hiding Muslims is the priest obligated to report it? Of course being rabid southern baptists without jesus they were clueless!! Which all really harsh atheists really are southern baptists without jesus. Or Anglicans!!! Same thing!!!
But I do know how you feel.
I am concerned with our perceptions of nature. So I just use it to get some clarity on why. Fr. Thomas Berry a passionist monk who is a part of deep ecology said" the old area tie is broken we await a new narrative". Our sense of the sacred is sacreligious is what I say. We can only give life to that narrative if we work to see how the narrative has become broken. Even in church it's broken badly broken. To understand broken you have to engage broken. Just don't let it be you, be the shaman the priest.

Hildegard debingen said "we cannot live in an interpreted world, for an interpreted world is not HOME". She is no fakin with the saints in a house she is the real deal HOME. And and she IS Catholic NOT WAS CATHOLIC how bout that!! truth.

I feel people are showing their real colors here they wouldnt otherwise in person.

You got that right Carlita. Some of the things some folks say on here, they would never dare to say in person. (at least I hope not). The challenge I think, is to try and respond as if the person we were talking to was sitting across a table from us.

Leave???

I really enjoy your posts Metis. In fact, I think a lot of people find it unnecessary to comment on a thread after you've posted there. I think this is the wrong approach as the poster may get the feeling they are alone in their comments, but I'm sure it happens.

So what would happen if you left? The anti-Catholics would rejoice, lay low for a few posts, then resume their vitriol once again. It would be like abandoning the Jews in the '30's because the Nazis are getting rowdy (my best attempt to guilt-shame you into staying).

You know as well as I do that if the anti-Catholics win here, it's only a matter of time before they find their way to whatever web-site recluse you manage to find. You've already seen two others destroyed. Why let it happen here?

So consider staying and keep up the good work. If you find some posts particularly egregious just shoot our moderators a note. I have no problem with honest disagreement but I don't like bullying and I don't like supremacist (racial, religious or otherwise) attitudes. You can also shoot me a note. I've been busy but I'll do my best to chime in. :)

After sitting on this for over a day, I got bad news for yas-- I'm staying. Since the problem is with me, I have to make some adjustments and will.

Also, to be clear, my reaction Monday evening was not "grandstanding" as I was quite depressed and dismayed, which you could probably tell even in my last several posts that day. But that's my problem and not anyone else's.

I want to thank you for your more-than-kind comments, and that was indeed a factor in my deciding to stay, along with some p.m. encouragement as well.

I really do like it here, even though I may not show it at times. I would really like to p.m. each of you who responded, but I really don't have the time, which has been complicated by a family tragedy that hit us yesterday.

Again, thanks, and...

Sorry to hear of a family tragedy! Take care and know that many here do care!

I'm pleased you are staying on RF but am dismayed that your family has been hit by a tragedy. If you need some strength or a laugh, just PM me and I'll do my best. My thoughts are with you and yours.
