Contacting the dead for non Pagans

Riders

Well-Known Member
I was thinking of contacting my Mom and Dad this Halloween. They are both dead, I am Christian but not opposed to doing rituals from other religions. Im sure someone here will call me a witxh but we did this ritual 8 years ago at my old UU church with Pagans telling me how to burn the paper sending the smoke up. ARe there any Pagans here who csn give me advice on the ritual?

What do you think being a Christian means? Shouldn't Christians take seriously when Bible tells that we should not try to contact dead people? (even when they seem to vote for "Democrats").

Can you cite the Bible where it says that we should not try to contact dead people?

I've read of similar practices. Memories are a nice way of reconnecting with those we love, and if necessary, with those we love less or dislike. I've never been a practitioner, but I'm sure intent makes a difference, as it is in the spirit of the contact that it is or would be understood, hence the words and flame and smoke being utilized as the practice and application of your own effort.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12
Deut. 18:10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, anyone practicing magic, anyone who looks for omens, a sorcerer, 11 anyone binding others with a spell, anyone who consults a spirit medium or a fortune-teller, or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12 For whoever does these things is detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable practices Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. 13 You should prove yourself blameless before Jehovah your God. 14 “For these nations that you are dispossessing used to listen to those practicing magic and divination, but Jehovah your God has not allowed you to do anything like this.

The world may change, but God does not.

Have you ever tried anchovy pizza? I tried it once and it was an unholy abomination to my pallet. I hope to never be required to consume that gross, detestable, and unholy combination again. I can't blame people for not liking some things, so I can understand Jehovah's resistance. I myself enjoy the sciences, loathe practice of it from a superstitious framework, and people are bound in life by many things, some of which make people addicts. It is a truth and I understand why, but .... I acknowledge that my ways are not his ways and until my ways are natural to me, and come upon me as a natural truth in my spirit, I can never truly honor God in truth, so I honor God in my truth as I am, knowing that I can't help but not like anchovies, and I will likewise honor God, knowing and accepting that is has been written that God does not like many things, also .

I'm one who believes that I am expected to honor in spirit and truth, so that's what I intend to do.

It says: "For whoever does these things is detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable practices Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. You should prove yourself blameless before Jehovah your God."

That is my God, and He is the same for ever and ever. His "message" may change, but His person does not.
He likes what He likes and He does not approve what He does not approve.

Acknowledged ... I never want to see some things, either, so I tend to look the other way or go find more acceptable havens able to accommodate my little place in body that represents humanity. I may not be a toe, or a finger but I'm still part of the body itself.

Whoever practices things that Jehovah considers detestable is far from having His approval. The god of that person is not Jehovah, the God of Abraham or Moses or David or Jesus.

Jehovah created the world, and the world will be judged according to His principles, not according to what humans of some "age" deem appropriate. Can men judge the One who created them?

To do this, I must honor in spirit and truth, otherwise I am doing exactly opposite of what is desired from me by the Father. I will acknowledge that God has likes and dislikes of his own. We all do. We are divided and separated for a reason (unique). This isn't to condemn, but to separate us from others unlike ourselves. This may be so we can be appropriately placed when the time comes for next destination. If I lied about a bunch of things to get into haven, do you think it would still be a haven for me? Truth matters, so I'll live in truth best I am able in hope of going to a suitable haven more appropriate for myself.

And now you speak for God? Who gave you the authority to speak for God?
I speak what the Bible says:

"For whoever does these things is detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable practices Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. You should prove yourself blameless before Jehovah your God."

I see you don't like it, but it's not me talking, it is Jehovah saying what He dislikes.
You may need another god.
