Converts to Judaism

I have noticed lately that there seem to be a lot of people converting to Judaism. In fact, my rabbi mailed about 60 pounds worth of books on Judaism to a community in the Bible Belt region who are interested in converting. I have also noticed IRL and on this forum people being genuinely interested in Judaism. Is this a trend you think? Why are people interested in becoming Jews?

I have been thinking of switching to Judaism. I have Jewish ancestry on my mother's and her mother's side. I have been in a Synagogue before and I found it very peaceful to my spirit- I feel that in a Christian church, but definitely not at the same degree! I always say "I feel the Holy Spirit more in a synagogue than in any Church".

May I ask what Christian denomination (if any) you belong to? Just curious.

BTW, if you need help I can give you some basic pointers. My advice isn't the best, but I could probably provide you w/ some basic info. Also, maybe I can get you in contact w/ my Rabbi (but only a maybe ATM), after all, he has been lately helping out people interested in Judaism (including some convicts in prison ). BUT, it's up to you if you wish to pursue Judaism and we don't like to proselytize so it's your call :D

I'm one that you're referring to, lol. And I've noticed the shift too since I became vocal with my questions! Thanks for your advice in the Seekers DIR, btw.

I don't have an explanation for why I feel the pull towards Judaism yet, excet for that it's oddly "comfortable" the more I read about it. I hope it's okay that I'm posting in here - I just wanted to call myself out on your observation, lol, and subscribe to the thread. :)

Zech 8:23 " Thus saith the LORD of hosts: In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, shall even take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying: We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.' "

Today is the start of the Jewish year 5771. We're getting closer to the Messianic age.

At least that's my personal opinion. I'm currently going through the process for conversion. Had a lovely Rosh HaShana service this evening.

I would suggest looking up Pintele Yid.

Perhaps you are just more aware of it at this point in your life? I do know there are a few here going through conversions/thinking about it which is nice for me because it there are many questions flying around that are important. I'm quick to notice someone is converting or considering it since I'm studying as well.

I'd say that's a fair assessment.

Because I'm focused on Judaism, I'm quicker to pick up comments in conversations or notice people who are talking about it. I doubt it is any more common than it has been, but I notice it more often. My rabbi seemed very surprised when I walked into the synagogue and asked for information because I was considering converting.

As far as being interested in it, xkatz, I'm sure everyone has their own reason for it. For me, it makes sense in a way Christianity never did for me.

I'm similar to sunsplash, because I feel pulled to Judaism, but, I can't really explain why. I like what I've read so far about Judaism and am enjoying learning more.

I don't know that there are really any more people converting these days than previously. But if it is actually so, I suppose that's really kind of nice. I am really supportive of Judaism being against proselytizing, but when people just seek us out of their own accord, I confess that really makes me feel warm and happy inside. I love our people and our traditions so much, it's nice to be able to share them with others.

I fully support all Gerim, and I'm in a position to talk with many and I find them almost universally thoughtful and sincere. At times, it can be a bit embarrassing, when the most knowledgeable and observant Jews in the community are Gerim!
