coolest bands or artists

The Lost One
Who do you are the coolest bands or artists?

To me, the coolest in the late 70s to mid-80s were The Police. The 80s to 90s was U2.

I think the coolest today and in last decade is Coldplay.

How "cool" a band or artist is not just the projected image, but also with the songwriting, and more importantly, their unique music.

Who do you think is "cool"?

nine inch nails has been my favorite band for the past 16 years.
Trent is brilliant and can play almost any instrument, he is super cool to me :)

Loved NIN as a teenager. However, at some point, a 50 year old Trent Reznor still singing about depression, angst, and suicide sort of got old and even a little bit silly. Definitely a talented composer though. But can he still qualify as "cool"? I dunno; I definitely don't want to see him try to fit into those tight leather pants at his age (he may break a hip, after all)...

(although Downward Spiral was def one of the better rock albums of the '90's, and I still can get down to Pretty Hate Machine; "I was up above it... Now I'm down in it!")

I have never heard of Nine Inch Nails, nor any of their songs. Must be because I lived in Australia.

To be fair he is only 48, in the best shape of his life, sober, and happily married with two boys.

He was actually accused of being "to upbeat" in his latest album, hesitation marks

I gather a lot of strength from Tents music. His discography (I think that's the term I am looking for) has helped me weather a few personal storms, so in my eyes that makes him rather cool :)

I believe instrumentals (no blabbering people in it :)) counts?

I'm a little protective when it comes to words. Feel really embarrassed hearing some words.

I love Yanni. There are also many Turkish instrumental artists/bands out there and I specifically love one called Yedi Karanfil, or Seven Clove Pinks in English. Don't really know Turkish, just translated it.

I'm really eccentric when it come to music. To anything actually. Like 90% of what I hear on my car's stereo is home made instrumentals (web artists) and video games music. Mood and sad music are usually my type.

My mom and I used to listen to Yanni a lot when I was a kid. Good memories. :)
